Tbrady4185 Posted April 15, 2007 Report Posted April 15, 2007 Hello to everybody!I am trying to book a hotel for one night (Sunday, May 20th) and I REALLY want to stay on the strip. The reason is that for the rest of the time I will be there, I will be staying off-strip in a timeshare and I want me and my friends to experience the thrill of staying in the middle of all the action. I know that it can be a bit dicey as to where Priceline/Hotwire puts you, so I just want to be clear that my first priority is being on the strip.I just chekced Priceline and the only hotels that still had availability that I would want to stay at seemed to the the Aladdin, Flamingo, Bourbon St (Bill's Gamblin Hall), and the New Frontier. I DEFINATELY don't want to get stuck in a Travelodge or Best Western. I would like to stay in a place like the Venetian, Bellagio, or Wynn, but to my knowledge they are all sold out.My first question is, what would you suggest the best bidding strategy would be for me, given the above parameters? I definately don't want to pay more then $150 a night. My backup plan is the Sahara, which isn't bad, but I would rather be closer to the strip (I know that the Sahara is "technically" still on the strip but its a bus ride away from anything cool to do). Secondly, is it better to use Priceline or Hotwire or does it really matter?Hope that was enough detail. Let me know if anything would help your response. Once again, thanks for this valuable service!
thereuare Posted April 15, 2007 Report Posted April 15, 2007 Welcome to BetterBidding!Does the Westin fit your criteria? (it's slightly off-strip) Please use this HOTWIRE and these PRICELINE LINKS: HOTELS, CAR RENTALS, and AIRFARE to begin your travel purchases
Tbrady4185 Posted April 15, 2007 Author Report Posted April 15, 2007 Thanks for the quick response. I had thought about that, but I wasn't sure as to how far it was off the strip. Am I correct in thinking that it's like a 5 minute walk? If so, then yeah, that's fine.
thereuare Posted April 15, 2007 Report Posted April 15, 2007 GoogleMaps puts it at about 4/10 of a mile. Please use this HOTWIRE and these PRICELINE LINKS: HOTELS, CAR RENTALS, and AIRFARE to begin your travel purchases
Tbrady4185 Posted April 15, 2007 Author Report Posted April 15, 2007 OK, that's fine with me. Looks like a pretty fancy resort :)
thereuare Posted April 15, 2007 Report Posted April 15, 2007 You have two re-bid zones available at the 4* level (NOTE: Summerlin is not one of them). If you're not familiar with re-bidding please read Priceline Re-Bidding Explained and feel free to ask questions and/or confirm your re-bid zones with the board before proceeding.Select 4* Strip...Bid $100, if rejected add re-bid zone1...Bid $110, if rejected close browser and re-access priceline however you did previously.Select 4* Strip and re-bid zone2...Bid $120, if rejected add re-bid zone1...Bid $130, if rejected close browser and re-access priceline however you did previously. If the above is rejected wait 24 hours and re-try...Select 4* Strip...Bid $135, if rejected add re-bid zone1...Bid $140, if rejected close browser and re-access priceline however you did previously.Select 4* Strip and re-bid zone2...Bid $145, if rejected add re-bid zone1...Bid $150.Any questions feel free to ask.Good Luck and let us know how it goes (and keep us updated as to your progress). Tbrady4185 Posted April 15, 2007 Author Report Posted April 15, 2007 I have a question about the zones. What does Zone1 and Zone2 coorespond to? Are they areas in Las Vegas? Thanks again for the help and I will be sure to use SavingsBarn.EDIT: Ok, I think I understand what is going on here but I just wanted to make sure. Am I correct in saying that Las VEgas Airport is one of the zones and Nellis-Las VEgas Speedway is the other zone? Also, is this basically what I should be doing?Go to priceineBid 100 for strip (4* minimum)modify bidding to include Las Vegas Airportmodify bidding to include Las Vegas Airport and Nellis Las Vegas SpeedwaySo on and so forth in 10 dollar incrementsAm I correct in saying this?
thereuare Posted April 15, 2007 Report Posted April 15, 2007 Yes, you have the re-bid zones correct, but you have to follow the outline above (ie- closing the browser when instructed and re-accessing priceline however you did previously) in order to get the number of bids outlined above. Tbrady4185 Posted April 15, 2007 Author Report Posted April 15, 2007 Cool, thanks. I will keep you updated on my progress
Tbrady4185 Posted April 15, 2007 Author Report Posted April 15, 2007 UPDATE: I did as you said and go the bidding all the way up to $130, without taxes. Unfortunately, I didn't have very much luck. I did notice that Priceline was trying to get me to take a deal of $209.00, but I didn't. I'm not to sure of the signifigance of that number so far. Anyways, I will wait 24 hours and try again tomorrow.
