emp2b3 Posted April 8, 2007 Report Posted April 8, 2007 Two Michigan Wolverines planning our first trip to NYC. Just found your site, have never really used Priceline before in the past. Read the faqs and the process seems to make sense. Based on our budget I think we are looking for a 2.5* hotel...I saw in a previous post that someone got a 3* for $100, although this appears rare. From the hotel list it looks like any of the Midtown areas (except maybe Midtown South) or SoHo would work for us. The only bid I have made was for all of those areas at once for $80 which was rejected, as I didn't really understand the bidding process/opening up a new browser thing. $100 or less per night would be great, but basically we will take the cheapest offer we can.Any tips are appreciated. And of course Go Blue!
thereuare Posted April 9, 2007 Report Posted April 9, 2007 Welcome to BetterBidding!I'm not sure most would be in agreement with your zone select...What is the reason you're avoiding the MTS zone?Likewise, SoHo also includes the Downtown/Financial area which is a bit 'out of the way' for the typical tourist. Is there a reason you'd want to stay in this area? Not sure if a 'shared bath' situation would be ok for you but you may want to consider the Pod Hotel for $131.I do think that your budget is doing to be tough, but let us know about the zones and we'll give it a shot. (although i also recommend staying at 3* or above when in NYC and using the opaque suppliers) Please use this HOTWIRE and these PRICELINE LINKS: HOTELS, CAR RENTALS, and AIRFARE to begin your travel purchases
emp2b3 Posted April 10, 2007 Author Report Posted April 10, 2007 Tried Priceline last night including all of the areas, adding SoHo last as we will indeed be there doing touristy thing. Went up to $140 including all of the neighborhoods with no luck. Should I just keep trying? Or do you think it is better to take the current Hotwire offer for a three star hotel in Times Square area for $169 per night? Current trip advisor rating 3/5. Have the plane tix already so just trying to figure out if I should spring for the hotel now and pay more than we had previously budgeted, or hold out and hope that prices go down. Thanks for the help.
emp2b3 Posted April 11, 2007 Author Report Posted April 11, 2007 Small update: Went up to $145 using the PRICELINE link and all neighborhoods except SoHo with no luck. Trying to decide how much I am willing to pay for a 2.5*. Maybe I should get a reservation somewhere that I could cancel if I never have any luck with Priceline or Hotwire?
emp2b3 Posted April 12, 2007 Author Report Posted April 12, 2007 thereuare - not to get too off topic, but after reading your suggestions on some other posts i am considering booking the beekman as the reviews are very positive like you say. i don't see it come up using Quickbook...it is generally the beekman that you get when using EasyClickTravel? these are the rooms offered when i search for May 1 - May 4Studio Suite $191.85 1 Bedroom Suite $213.99
thereuare Posted April 12, 2007 Report Posted April 12, 2007 Here is a link to the Beekman TowerThru EasyClickTravel the reservation is cancellable up until a few days before your stay, so you could continue to try the opaque providers, but reviews of the Beekman are generally very good. emp2b3 Posted April 12, 2007 Author Report Posted April 12, 2007 First of all thanks for all of the help so far.I put in a request for rooms at the Beekman using your link for May 1 - May 4, but the last day was 'on request'. I see that you have said before that they often don't release more rooms to easyclicktravel, so I'm keeping my fingers crossed for the next few days. If that doesn't work I guess I will just keep trying priceline or am open to any other suggestions. One question I didn't see answered in a previous thread was whether or not the first days will go through at the Beekman even if there is no availability for the third night or if I will have to rebook those first two days afterward and hope that they are still available?
thereuare Posted April 12, 2007 Report Posted April 12, 2007 That's too bad as it was definately 'avaialble' when i first posted. EasyClickTravel won't confirm your reservation for a partial stay... you will need to rebook those nites.
