Aisling Posted April 7, 2007 Report Posted April 7, 2007 I've always had excellent results using Priceline before so I am baffled why the bidding seems so difficult this year.I began bidding low ($90.00) at the 4-Star level and did the usual strategy of adding re-bids zones while increasing by $5.00 increments. I did this over a one week period until I reached my limit of $170 per night. I then decided to break up my stay to two- three night stays. (June 18-21 and June 21- 24). No luck. The next night I started the same routine with the 3-Star level. I reached the end by splitting my stay and capped out again at $170.00.I am now attempting the 2 1/2-Star level. Can I ask if my expectations are too high? Is it the time of year? Has hotel prices dramatically increased this much since last summer? My bid wins in the past were:Paramount- $135.00 -5 night stay (March, 2006)Hudson Hotel- $140.00 -4 night stay (June, 2006)Sheraton Towers- $110.00 -5 night stay (July, 2006)Also.... is there a chance I may end up with a 2 1/2- Star hotel that is not listed on the pages here? I noticed the page list was made in 2003.Thanks in advance.
thereuare Posted April 7, 2007 Report Posted April 7, 2007 Nobody will know to look here to see what you ultimatley did for your June '06 stay... please follow-up your previous Priceline New York City thread with your results and then bump this thread and we'll comment regarding your stay above. Please use this HOTWIRE and these PRICELINE LINKS: HOTELS, CAR RENTALS, and AIRFARE to begin your travel purchases
Aisling Posted April 8, 2007 Author Report Posted April 8, 2007 okay....*bump*Hope I'm doing this right.
thereuare Posted April 8, 2007 Report Posted April 8, 2007 is there a chance I may end up with a 2 1/2- Star hotel that is not listed on the pages here?Yes, read the comments at the top of the hotel list.I noticed the page list was made in 2003.See the related link in our PRICELINE FAQ.For 6/22-6/24 HOTWIRE (please use this link) is showing a 3* Suite hotel in the MTE zone for $149 which is a match for the Beekman Tower so that would be our best guess. If this ID is correct, you can then buy the Beekman Tower for 6/18-6/22 thru THIS LINK for $192/nite. Thru this previous link the reservation is cancellable up until a few days before your check-in date, so you'll be able to continue to try other sources and cancel if rates drop for this portion of your stay. As well, this second reservation (for the first 4 nites of your stay) has no booking fee, so averaging the two purchase you're really only looking at about $2 per nite more than you've already bid on priceline. Reviews for the Beekman Tower are also very goodDoes that work for your needs? Please use this HOTWIRE and these PRICELINE LINKS: HOTELS, CAR RENTALS, and AIRFARE to begin your travel purchases
Aisling Posted April 8, 2007 Author Report Posted April 8, 2007 I went ahead and booked the Beekman for June 22-24 thru' the HOTWIRE link for $149.00 per night. Unfortunately it looks as if my bank has a block on other travel sites banking service. I need to call and have it unblocked. Thanks and wish me luck on the first 4 days of my stay. Those are the most important.
thereuare Posted April 9, 2007 Report Posted April 9, 2007 Glad we could help.. i'm going to move this thread to the Hotwire section of the board and edit the topic title to reflect your HOTWIRE purchase of the Beekman.Keep us updated to any changes or if we can be of further help. Please use this HOTWIRE and these PRICELINE LINKS: HOTELS, CAR RENTALS, and AIRFARE to begin your travel purchases
