Thanks for the post... is this the longest stay you've had with one purchease in the last year?

Seems like you've had a few HOTWIRE purchases lately, nice to see them continuing to get more competitive and providing a viable option for many stays.

I spent all of January at the Opal through PL, albeit with three consecutive bids.

Regretfully it is not so much that Hotwire has become more competitive, but rather that deals on Priceline are becoming more scarce.

I guess it depends upon your perspective, but if HOTWIRE pricing is the best deal vs. what else is currently available for a given stay, then by definition it is becoming more competitive.

We all miss the $20 hotel nites of years ago, but just because they aren't available anymore, doesn't make current $50 wins (when retail is $100) a bad deal.

You are right, of course, these are still all excellent deals. My perspective is obviously different than everybody else's because I compare hotel rates to rent, whereas a normal person compares a PL/HW rate to a published hotel rate.

I could probably rent an apartment for what I'm paying PL/HW these days, and the only reason I'm holding off is that I'll be abroad for three weeks in July and don't want to pay rent for that period. And then I'll want to spend August weekends in San Jose, so there's another excuse...
