Priceline Hotel: 4* New York (MTW/MTE) 6/9-6/14 - Still Trying

I have been trying to get a 4* room for 6/9-6/14 in MTW/MTE (the guests are tourists from overseas and are set on these areas, I am just a middle-man who pretends to know how Priceline works and all that jazz...). I have been bidding for the last 3 weeks, initially up to $200, then up to $225, and today even up to to $250 (progressively, using all the re-bid zones etc, that's a lot of re-bidding every 24 hours...). No luck whatsoever.

The good news is that I do have an acceptable and cancellable back-up plan (Club Quarters Rockfeller Center) for $249 booked through my company who is a member, but I am hoping that for the same price I can find them a more "tourist-oriented" rather than "bussiness-oriented" option. Does this even make sense?

Any comments on the failing bids? While $250 is far below list prices, it is not an insignificant amount. Is it too early? Is it too late?

Thank a lot,

Yiorgos

PS: I am mainly posting the unsuccesful bid amounts so that people know what to expect...

Welcome to BetterBidding!

As an alternative to your currennt back-up, how about the a Studio Suite at the Beekman Tower for $233/nite (big rooms and good reviews... a little east of central) or the Parmount for $252/nite (great loation but small rooms). Both of these are cancellable up until a few days before their check-in.

Searching HOTWIRE has a few hotels right near your current bid amounts... there is a 3* hotel in the MTS zone for $246 (which appears to be the Hotel Mela(??)... another good location/small room property) as well as a 4* in the MTC zone (Helmsley Park Lane(??)... amenities associated with this one are a bit more common so a little less confident, but it is a match)

Please use the links in this thread if you decide to book any of the above.

Your thoughts?

EDIT to ADD: also just found another good option... Quikbook has the Eastgate Tower, a Studio Suite for $245/nite or a 1BR suite for $263... both are cancellable (these rates are, some other higher rates at this property are non-refundable, clearly marked as such) in case you come up with something better closer to your their dates, but the reviews are great, location is good (near Grand Central Station), and rooms have good size to them

Salisbury - a nice (albeit older and rather basic, but gets solid reviews) hotel in a great location (right near Central Park) is $189 a night on Expedia.com for these dates and includes breakfast. I stayed there years and years ago and it was fine, and other family have successfully stayed there since and liked it. The $189 price is 25% off.

You guys are great, thanks for the very quick reponses. My friends are set on 4* and central location so I think that I am more comfortable with the lub Quarters in Rockefeller center than with the other options that you mentioned (some of which I had not found / considered). You help is greatly appreciated. I will keep trying Priceline and will update eventually with the outcome. Thanks again.
