lbbowen Posted March 29, 2007 Report Posted March 29, 2007 Can anyone offer any input of what this hotel may be? It is listed with the following on Hotwire.Customer FavoriteFitnessBusinessSpaRestauantInternetI am new to the forum and from first glances it seems that it may be the Hyatt Regency. In one of the customer reviews it also states that it is just South of the river. I am looking for a nice Hotel for a one night trip to Chicago for myself, wife, and daughter. We currently have a reservation at the Chicago City Center Hotel and Sports Club at a great rate of $70. But if this a nicer hotel I don't mind the slightly higher price. Any advise would be appreciated.
AaronJB Posted March 29, 2007 Report Posted March 29, 2007 That would very likely be the Hyatt. The Hyatt is a giant (the biggest hotel in Chicago) convention hotel that, while rated 4*, is more accurately 3*. $84 isn't bad for it, but personally, I think you got a great deal on the CC (which, up until it was bought out recently, was a Holiday Inn, and - while still basic - a nicer HI than most), which is in a great location. I'd just stick with that. Additionally, with the CC, you get (according to the website), complimentary access to the very nice Lakeshore Athletic Club: "Enjoy complementary access to the Lakeshore Athletic Club & Spa, featuring indoor pool, cardiovascular center, weight room, steam room, sauna, whirlpool and special discounts on spa services."
lbbowen Posted March 29, 2007 Author Report Posted March 29, 2007 Thanks Aaron!I appreciate the advice. I was considering going with a more plush hotel or Boutique hotel for my wife and daughter but we will be spending little time there in all actuality. We will be sightseeing both days there. I got the deal for CC through "Travelzoo". Hope I am allowed to post that here......if not I appologize. Thanks again for the info. I do appreciate it and will continue to look to these forums for future trips.
AaronJB Posted March 29, 2007 Report Posted March 29, 2007 No problem. The Hyatt isn't bad; it's just huge and not really "personal." Between the CC for $70 and the Hyatt for $84, I'd stick with the CC. Plus, I think the area around the CC (Navy Pier just a few blocks East, Michigan Ave. a few West) is very nice. There's also the terrific Fox and Obel cafe/market nearby on Illinois/McClurg.As for nicer hotels:It would be more $, but the Fairmont does have a deal if you book through Expedia.com where you get an upgrade to a deluxe (lakeview) room for $139. That hotel is near Millennium Park and the Art Institute. The free upgrade seems like a very good deal. The Wyndham would also be another pick on Expedia.com for $108 non-refundable/$120 refundable. That's a couple of blocks North of the CC.The historic Intercontinental has rooms in their main wing for $159. That's a very nice hotel directly on North Michigan Ave. A lot of fun history (the hotel has one of the first pools built on a higher floor; it was where the original "Tarzan" trained. The pool was considered an engineering feat when built in 1929) in that hotel. The Monaco (a Kimpton boutique hotel where you can get a goldfish to stay in your room) is $139 on Travelocity for a room w/2 queen beds. The Hilton/Towers on South Michigan Ave. is $99 non-refundable for 2 beds. The problem with that hotel is that, in the South Loop, there's really not very much around it aside from college buildings and apartments. The Museum Campus is not a far walk, but otherwise, it's a ways to Mag Mile shopping. The Art Institute and Millennium Park are not too far a walk North. $99 is a great price for this hotel, but it's not the most conveniently located. Not sure what you wanted to spend as a max, but I thought these were all examples of very nice hotels.
