We are looking for a 4* pretty much any where in NYC from Central Park to the Financial district. Our stay is from 3/31/07 to 4/4/07. I would like zone and bid suggestions along with advice on handling four to a room vs two rooms.

Thanks.

Priceline only guarantees double occupancy, and many 'standard' rooms in NYC hotel rooms can't accomodate quad occupancy.... it is considered very risky to use priceline in NYC for quad occupancy; and unfortunately your budget isn't likely going to be enough for two rooms at a 4* hotel.

HOTWIRE does allow you to search for up to quad occupancy, but unfortunately there are not any 4 star hotels within your budget. There is a 4* hotel in Jersey City (believed to be the Hyatt Regency) which is $225/nite for quad occupancy. The Hyatt gets very good reviews, rooms have a NYC skyline view, and there is a PATH train at the door which takes you into Manhattan (10 minutes to Downtown, 18 minutes to Midtown). You do lose some of the "NYC feel" compared to staying in Manhattan, but now sure how firm your budget is and/or if this is an option for you.

Is SPLITTING YOUR PRICELINE BID an option?

Let us know your thoughts on the above and if splitting is a possibility and we'll take it from there.

PS- as thsi stay is only 4 days away, do you have a back-up reservation anywhere? (if so, where and how much?)

We would prefer to stay in the City It will be our first New York experience.

I don't mind splitting.

I don't have a backup reservation. We just decided to go last night.

We wouldn't mind getting a decent 3* either.

Would we be better off going with Hotwire?

Thanks.

OK, i feel pretty good about this one now (ie- i think we found some viable alternatives within (actually under) your budget), and there are some price changes that have taken place in your favor too.

When searching for your complete stay, 3/31-4/4, 2adults/2children there is a 3* on HOTWIRE for $153/nite (this is believed to be the Holiday Inn Express... maybe not what you were looking for off the bat, but perhaps it will do given the price (vs. the alternatives). As well, this same property appears for only $120/nite when searching for 3/31-4/2 (if you're willing to split your stay).

If you go with this property for the first 2 nites of your stay, you then have some options for the last 2 nites of your stay. You could increase you budget slightly, and a 1BR suite at the Beekman Tower for $214/nite... technically this hotel will only appear if you select 2adults/1child, but there is one bed in the bedroom and a pull-out couch in the living room, if that will work for your needs?

As well, i know you want to stay directly in the city, but the Hyatt Regency in Jersey City has gone down in price a bit, and i think you can get a room there for quad occupancy for just $120/nite... which is a steal (you could even get two rooms and still be under your budget). Since this is your first trip to NYC i would, as you point out, stay directly in the city, but if you split your bid i think you could still get the NYC experience by spending part of your time in Manhattan and the other two nites in Jersey City.

Let us know your thoughts on all of the above. If for some reason you purchase before replying, please remember to use our HOTWIRE link to begin each purchase (ie- if you split the stay and use the previous link to make the first purchase, please return here and click the link again to begin the second purchase).
