jennjenn527 Posted March 24, 2007 Report Posted March 24, 2007 I am going to New York City on 6/1/07-6/05/07 or 6/06/07 depending on the cost. I will stay an extra day if the price is right. It will be me, my husband, and my 3 year old. We have never been to new york so we are going mainly for sightseeing. I also need wherever I stay to be in a good location for traveling with my 3 year old. Like easy access to transportation or walking distances to most sites. We are not really picky about hotels. I would love a nice 4 star but I mainly just want a good location. I would like to spend no more than $200 a night but of course would be thrilled with $140-$170 rangeThis is what I have tried so farMidtown West 6/1-6/64* $140Rebid zone Upper East Side $150Rebid Zone Upper West Side $160No luckMidtown West 6/1-6/54* $160No luckAny Advice? I am not opposed to a 3 star but I just didn
thereuare Posted March 25, 2007 Report Posted March 25, 2007 Welcome to BetterBidding!Usually MTE, MTW, and UM/CPS all work well for the average NYC visitor. Look at these zones and let us know if all three are acceptable to you... we'll then be able to suggest a strategy to follow. Also, just reiteration that priceline only guarantees double occupancy... you could receive a hotel that only gives you one bid and no room for a rollaway. jennjenn527 Posted March 25, 2007 Author Report Posted March 25, 2007 All 3 of those zones look good to me.
thereuare Posted March 25, 2007 Report Posted March 25, 2007 When bidding 4* in NYC you have two re-bid zones available. If you're not familiar with re-bidding please read Priceline Re-Bidding Explained and feel free to ask questions and/or confirm your re-bid zones with the board before proceeding.Select 4* MTE...Bid $120, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $130, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $140, if rejected close browser and re-access priceline however you did previously.Select 4* MTW...Bid $120, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $130, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $140, if rejected close browser and re-access priceline however you did previously.Select 4* UM/CPS...Bid $120, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $130, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $140, if rejected close browser and re-access priceline however you did previously.Select 4* MTE and MTW...Bid $145, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $150, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $155, if rejected close browser and re-access priceline however you did previously.Select 4* MTW and UM/CPS...Bid $145, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $150, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $155, if rejected close browser and re-access priceline however you did previously.Select 4* MTE and MTW and UM/CPS...Bid $160, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $165, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $170.I'd start with the above, if rejected we'll revise to try again in 24 hours.Any questions feel free to ask.Good Luck and let us know how it goes. jennjenn527 Posted March 25, 2007 Author Report Posted March 25, 2007 Thank you for the strategy plan...no luck though..everything was rejected. Should I try for 3 stars now or try the $170-$200 range for a 4 star? What about midtown south---Is it a bad area?
thereuare Posted March 25, 2007 Report Posted March 25, 2007 Plenty of time... I would re-try in 24 hours, as follows:Select 4* MTE...Bid $150, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $160, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $170, if rejected close browser and re-access priceline however you did previously.Select 4* MTW...Bid $150, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $160, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $170, if rejected close browser and re-access priceline however you did previously.Select 4* UM/CPS...Bid $150, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $160, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $170, if rejected close browser and re-access priceline however you did previously.Select 4* MTE and MTW...Bid $175, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $180, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $185, if rejected close browser and re-access priceline however you did previously.Select 4* MTW and UM/CPS...Bid $175, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $180, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $185, if rejected close browser and re-access priceline however you did previously.Select 4* MTE and MTW and UM/CPS...Bid $190, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $195, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $200.Good Luck and let us know how it goes.If the above is rejected we can then discuss 3 star properties and other options. thereuare Posted March 27, 2007 Report Posted March 27, 2007 Take a look at the 3* properties in the Priceline Hotel List and see if you are comfortable with what has previously been reported (many have links to reviews next to them). If you do bid the 3* level i would also add the MTS zone as we often see accepted bids in that zone at the 3 star level... let us know if this is an acceptable zone to add.I think the biggest factor that should weigh in your decision is that rooms can get somewhat smaller at the 3* level (and NYC hotel rooms are notoriously small to begin with). This could be problematic since you'll be triple occupancy... some rooms in NYC are not large enough to accomodate a rollaway bed or a crib, and i think this risk increases when you drop from 4* to 3*. jennjenn527 Posted March 29, 2007 Author Report Posted March 29, 2007 Does anybody have any ideas what a 2* Midtown South with boutique, internet acess and kitchenette might be?
thereuare Posted March 29, 2007 Report Posted March 29, 2007 Please keep all posts for the same stay in the same thread. This property has not yet been identified, and although this hotel shows up when searching 2adults/1child, i would avoid a 2* "Boutique" hotel for triple occupancy (and probably for double occupancy too... "boutique" and "2 stars" are not typically a good combination)Did you try any priceline 3* bidding? Is SPLITTING YOUR PRICELINE BID an option? (if so, the Beekman Tower has a 1BR suite for $214/nite for 6/3-6/6... there is no booking fee so only about $7/nite more than you've already bid, the reviews are very good, it's a true 1BR suite with a bed in the bedroom and a pull-out sofa in the LR so you can still be awake while your 3 year old goes to sleep, and there is also a ktichen with refrigerator which i know comes in handy when traveling with little ones). You could book that and then look for alternate accomodations for 6/1/-6/3.Your thoughts? jennjenn527 Posted March 30, 2007 Author Report Posted March 30, 2007 oops sorry about posting in the wrong place. I figured since it was hotwire I should post in that section. Thank you for the advice about the 2 star. I really like the looks of the Beekman Tower and would definitely consider the possibility of splitting or maybe even just booking it for the whole stay. I may have to cut out a day to make it affordable but the suite may be worth it. Is it nonrefundable through that site that you linked me too?I also liked the looks of most of the 3 star hotels in Midtown East and West. I haven't had a chance yet to look at the 3 stars in Central Park area.
thereuare Posted March 30, 2007 Report Posted March 30, 2007 Thru this Beekman Tower link the reservation is refundable up until a couple of days before your stay. However, note that EasyClickTravel only gets a limited number of rooms at this pre-contracted rate, so if you are considering this property i would book it now to make sure they don't sell out, and you can always cancel if something better comes along. Also, if you are considering staying here for the complete stay, i would make two separate purchases... one for 6/1-6/3 and another for 6/3-6/6 as you then get the better pricing for the second half of your stay :) If you do choose this route, please use the link in this thread to begin each purchase (ie- use the link to make your first purchaes, then return here and click the link again to make the second purchase)Thanks!
