antag
Hi, Never booked with priceline before, am looking at LA for first 10 days in April, would particularly like Santa Monica area, visited here before and loved it. Hotels seem very expensive what kind of bids would secure a decent hotel? Any advise. Link to comment
thereuare
Welcome to BetterBidding! If you haven't seen it yet you should give this thread a read: I've Never Used Priceline or Hotwire. Please include the actual dates of your stay (is it 4/1-4/10 or 4/11?), your minimum star rating, and your maximum bid... we wouldn't want to suggest a strategy that went higher than you wanted to bid.As well, the priceline is larger than 'just' Santa Monica... are you willing to receive a hotel anywhere within the shaded boundaries of the zone? wsj3200
I'm local to this area. Booking near the LAX will get you the best bang for the buck and is only a 20 minute drive to Santa Monica during off peak hours. But just a warning, traffic is usualyHope this helps miserable between LAX and Santa Monica during peak periods. Hope this helps. Thereuare can help you with bidding strategies. Link to comment
antag
Hi the dates are probably 2-9 April, would $100 be unreasonably? There will be four of us two adults and twokids so we may need two rooms (one of them is a teenager). Don't mind if the hotel is not directly in Santa Monica but would like to be quite close to beach. Thanks ps don't fancy anything less than 3star Link to comment
thereuare
A very preliminary look at rates at some hotels in this area are a little higher than when we typically see $100 bids accepted... we'll never now until you try though, but even if rejected at $100, you may not be too far off (like another $10-$15 might due it.Let us know once your plans/dates are firm and we'll take a closer look and suggest a strategy to follow.Alternately, HOTWIRE (which does allow you to search for up to quad occupancy) has a 3.5* property in the Santa Monica zone for $138 when searching for 2adults/2children (looks like a match for the Four Points so that would be our best guess). Please use this HOTWIRE link for any searches or purchases you make.Let us know your thoughts on the above and/or what you decide to do and we'll take it from there. antag
Work in an airline so just checking availability of flights and arriving on 2nd and leaving on 9th looks like my best bet so I think I'll try for that week. If I bid $100 and it is rejected can I just put in a new bid? Link to comment
thereuare
No, you have to wait at least 24 hours before submitting the same bid again, but this is where Priceline Re-Bidding Explained comes into play.I wouldn't suggest bidding $100 off the bit... you want to use a bidding stratgy (which we can help with) and gradually increasing your bids. This makes sure that you get the best possible price and don't overbid.Once you firm up your plans let us know and we'll suggest a strategy to follow. As well, if you don't mind quad occupancy, you may want to consider the HOTWIRE offer discussed above as you'd then be able to get one room for the four of you, which would be cheaper than two rooms (even if at a slightly lower price). antag
Didn't see any hotels in Santa Monica on Hotwire though? Link to comment
thereuare
Use this HOTWIRE link, enter "Santa Monica" in the search box, 1room, 2adults, 2children, and on the next screen make sure you place a checkmark next to the "Santa Monica-Marina del Ray" zone. You should see one hotel in this zone, 3.5* rated. antag
Yes I see that now thanks. I fancy trying priceline first not much to loose, and maybe take the chance on being able to get one room to sleep four? How would you suggest I go about it. Thanks Link to comment

thereuare
Unfortunatley there are no re-bid zones when bidding the 3* level in this area. For your first bid, i'd try $85, if that is rejected let us know and we'll suggest another price to try again in 24 hours.Good Luck and let us know how it goes.
