Looking for help, staying for 9 nights in New York.

Its US Open week and we are coming in from Ireland.....

Any strategies to employ here?

Maximum to pay would be about $175 per night.

We love our food (sushi/ethnic/chinatown etc.) so would prefer to stay in a district where we can eat locally at night.

Havent booked back ups, or tried priceline yet because not sure where I should price it for that time of year.

Thanks in advance

Welcome to BetterBidding!

Are you looking for the least expensive 3* or better hotel OR are you willing to pay more for a 4* (ie- did you want to try for a 4* up to your limit and then, if rejected, try for a 3*; or is price the most important aspect?)

Definitely would like to get a 4 star if possible. Certainly not trying to get the cheapest 3 star. Its a sort of a one off trip so budget is not primary concern. Primary concern is getting a comfortable hotel (boutique maybe) and not getting shafted on the price (a la Expedia)

One more question...

Is the UM/CPS zone also a possibility? This zone is considered to be just as centrally located as the other two (ie- close to subways, restaurants, etc) and including it will give you a lot more bidding opportunities each bidding cycle. This zone is usually more expensive than the other two, so i don't think you're chances of landing a hotel in this area are high (but certainly possible... so if you don't want to stay in this area for some reason then don't include it in your bidding). Similar things can be said about the MTS zone, and while some of the other boundaries this zone may be slightly less centralized, the 4* hotels may be a bit more "boutique-y" or 'upsacale' than in the MTE/MTW zone.

My comments above about the MTS and UM/CPS zones being more expensive than their midtown counterparts is only in relation to the 4 star hotels... this statement is not true when considering 3* properties.

Let us know your thoughts about adding one/both of these other zones and we'll then suggest a strategy to follow.

If the above is rejected you can either choose to wait it out and try again in a few weeks or you can lower to a 3* and we'll suggest an updated strategy for you to try.

Either way, you may want to book a cancellable back-up, and the Beekman Tower has a Studio Suite avaialble for $200 which is cancellable up until a few days before your stay.

Any questions feel free to ask.

Good Luck and let us know how it goes.
