koop Posted March 21, 2007 Report Posted March 21, 2007 Hello,I'm new to this forum as well as priceline, and also my first trip to NY. Since all I can find are outrageous prices, i'm willing to try the re-bidding technique on priceline. To summarize:NYC (MTW - MTE - UM-CPS)5/10 - 5/13My question is, what do you guys think would be a successful range for bids for a 4* hotel in any of those areas, preferably MTW.I have already tried:$120 MTW Failedre-bid $130 Failedre-bid $140 FailedAlso tried:$120 MTE Failedre-bid $130 Failedre-bid $140 FailedHaven't tried again.Any help is appreciated.I have also looked into the Beekman Towers and it says $210 for those dates...Thanks.
thereuare Posted March 21, 2007 Report Posted March 21, 2007 The Beekman Towers can be booked HERE for $206/nite and it's cancellable up until a few days before your stay... if this is your best deal then i would book it to make sure you protect yourself from that rate selling out, and still continue to try the opaque providers for a better deal. The Eastgate Tower is also available thru Quikbook for $213/nite. On the Quikbook site they have a few different rates for this property, but if you rank your list by price (lowest to highest) scroll down about 16-18 listings and you'll find this one which is cancellable (if you look further down you'll see higher rates which are "PrePay/NoCanxl/NoChange")I'd book either of the above as a back-up.You might be successful around these prices for a 4* on Priceline, but not sure if you want to go that high on an opaque purchase (or this far ahead of your check-in date)... let us know your current maximum bid and we'll suggest a strategy to follow. canaxer Posted March 21, 2007 Report Posted March 21, 2007 i've been bidding for 3 days now for 4/18-4/21, last bid was 253. no success, fyi.
koop Posted March 21, 2007 Author Report Posted March 21, 2007 I will look into booking Beekman Towers as a backup.I'm not really sure what to expect from the prices of hotels in NY at this time, and i'm not stuck on 1 particular area. I just want to be in a convenient place versus Jersey (which is where I'm finding good rates so far). I don't mind a 3* in MTW, but not sure how to use re-bid trick with 3*'s and I don't want to get stuck with a crappy 3*.I'd say max bid $160...or is that too low for this time of year?I saw some ppl getting Hilton, and W, etc for 130-160...so I based my bidding on that.
thereuare Posted March 21, 2007 Report Posted March 21, 2007 If you choose to lower your star rating to 3 stars you have one re-bid zone available.... re-bidding is explained here: Priceline Re-Bidding Explained We encourage you to confirm your re-bid zone(s) and/or ask questions before bidding if you're unsure.Based upon current rates, $160 is not likely going to be enough for a 4* property; it may be enough for a 3* but i'd guess that the chances are currently less than 50/50.Where in NJ are you finding good rates for these dates, as some areas of NJ are not the convenient to the city (and sometimes priced cheaply for a reason).Let us know how you want to proceed next and we'll advise accordingly. koop Posted March 22, 2007 Author Report Posted March 22, 2007 The property which I got a deal at for $98 is the Residence Inn East Rutherford.I wouldn't mind a 3*, I will try to use the 1 re-bid zone today and see what I come up with.
thereuare Posted March 22, 2007 Report Posted March 22, 2007 I'm familiar with this area and while this hotel is brand new... there is nothing in the immediate area (a family steakhouse "Charlie Browns" and that is about it); not sure if this is really where you want to be without a car and/or to commute in the city every day. There is a 2* in Jersey City for $122 on HOTWIRE which matches the description for the Candlewood Suites (compare to the description in the Hotwire Hotel List)... if correct, i would sooner take that property over a hotel in East Rutherford. If you go this route please use this HOTWIRE link to begin your purcahse.Let us know what you decide or if we can be of further help. koop Posted March 23, 2007 Author Report Posted March 23, 2007 I have tried the range of 150-180 for 4* and 3* with no luck.Maybe i'll just wait a week or so and try again.Does anyone have any reviews for the choice hotels in manhattan..comfort inn?I looked at the reviews on tripadvisor and they don't seem so bad...just wondering.
koop Posted March 23, 2007 Author Report Posted March 23, 2007 Does anyone know of any successful 4*/3* bids for 5/10-/5/14 in the MTW/MTE area?I haven't found any on the forum, just wondering what's up with these dates, seems like there are no breaks, even with employee rates.
thereuare Posted March 23, 2007 Report Posted March 23, 2007 All reported wins would be found on the board.Spring is an expensive time in NYC... if a hotel can get premium rates from guests on their own, why give deeply discounted (or any) inventory to the opaque suppliers? Discounts can certainly be had (and if you re-read this thread i think we've given some good examples of some) but the number of deals to choose from is obviously less during peak demand.
