Priceline Hotel: 4* Las Vegas (Strip) Westin

(My first post, apologies if I leave out any crucial information!)

So right now I'm targeting a trip for 7/22-7/27 - I'd like to extend this up to 7/21-7/29 if I can get a good enough rate. (Judging from prices, my dates are relatively slow times)

I'm looking for an on-strip hotel (I'd like to avoid the Westin), and I'd like to ideally get something at $60/night or less to facilitate the longer stay. $95/night or less for the shorter stay (I'd likely have to broaden into 3* to hit the lower price range - which I'm willing to do if I can avoid an undesireable hotel)

Any advice on where (and when) I should start bidding - and whether the hope of getting a 4* in that price range (without getting the Westin) is unrealistic?

(Alternately, should i be looking at hotwire instead, if the Westin is going to cause too much trouble?)

Thanks!

Welcome to BetterBidding!

I do believe Priceline would be too risky if you're trying to avoid the Westin... i think you should be looking at HOTWIRE (as well as a few other sources while we'll help you look into)

If you're able to extend this trip, do you have to start the trip on the 21st, or could you extened 7/22-7/29. Given that i think it's going ot be tough to arrange a hotel on the strip for under $60 which include a weekend stay, it's going to be even tougher if you include an additional Saturday nite (as well as a Saturday nite check-in, which many hotels in Vegas don't allow)

Do you need to be at the same hotel for the entire stay or is SPLITTING YOUR PRICELINE BID an option (this link discusses priceline, and even though you won't likely be using priceline, the same concept applies)

Let us know and we'll advise further.

Unfortunately, I gambled... and lost. (Well... I am looking at a trip to Vegas, after all. And am, alas, quite impatient. Not a good trait for deal hunting)

Westin at a $75, 4 star minimum, Strip area only, for the short weeknight stay period. (22-27th) (It seems like a decent price - at least, it's much better than any of the open booking prices I've seen for it, but I'm wishing I had started lower - for a 4 star price, I really would have preferred a more... interesting hotel, as stupid as that may seem.) I thought that $75 wouldn't get me anything this far out - but in retrospect there was no reason to even try it.

I'm not averse to changing hotels, as I've left my weekend periods open - and may look into splitting off to a lower end hotel for one or both ends. I just need to find the cheapest place that fits my definition of "tolerable" (which is essentially bog standard holiday inn type - or possible El Cortez through an open booking system, looking at it's $42 weekend pricing on tripres.com).
