Priceline deal bittersuite [sic.]

First let me preface my post by stating clearly that AmeriSuite brand hotels are fantastic and this has nothing to do with them specifically. It just happened that they were the hotel Priceline picked for me.

Here was the situation..

Two friends and I plan to visit Paramount's Kings Island in June, so I needed to book a couple of rooms in the Mason, OH area. I first checked around the area for suites because you can usually get a good deal in a 2 or 3 star hotel for less than $120 a night with two beds and a sleeper sofa. Unfortunately my search came up blank.

Failing that I turned to Priceline's "name your price" and started plugging in values for the Kings Island area. Nothing was accepted at the price I wanted until I added the Cincinnati North - Sharonville area (about 20 minute drive from the park). I was instantly accepted at Amerisuites Cincinnati Forest Park for two rooms and two night stay for the total cost of $278.66. Not too bad, or so I thought.

Then I found their regular listing on Priceline and saw double bed suites with a sofa sleeper for $99 a night, bulk rate. With tax and fees, one room for two nights would have been around $220. This means I actually ended up spending about $60 more than I otherwise would have.

Don't get me wrong, I still got a great deal (on two VERY LARGE rooms)! But I inadvertently overbooked myself.

This is not a situation that comes up very often, but it may be something to consider if, like me, you're looking to save some money on renting suites for an odd-number of guests. In any case it is an interesting and highly excusable trap I fell into. I don't blame Priceline or AmeriSuites one bit. I'm certain we will enjoy our stay with lots of leg room! :)
