supersonic Posted March 11, 2007 Report Posted March 11, 2007 Hello there - new to this forum. Looking to stay in NYC 4/13-4/17, 4 nights, in a 3 star hotel. We're going to be doing some touristy things, so from doing some research here in this forum, it looks like we should stay in either MTE, MTW or UM. I want to pay $140.00/night. Is that unreasonable? Anyone have bidding advice for me? I've read the section on rebidding and I think I understand it.Thanks in advance for any assistance!
thereuare Posted March 11, 2007 Report Posted March 11, 2007 Welcome to BetterBidding!I'm doubtful that $140 will be enough for a 3* on the above dates, but if you want to try anyway...You have one re-bid zone when bidding 3* in NYC. If you're not familiar with re-bidding please read Priceline Re-Bidding Explained and feel free to ask questions and/or confirm your re-bid zones with the board before proceeding.Select 3* MTW...Bid $110, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $120, if rejected close browser and re-access priceline however you did previously.Select 3* UM/CPS...Bid $110, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $120, if rejected close browser and re-access priceline however you did previously.Select 3* MTE...Bid $110, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $120, if rejected close browser and re-access priceline however you did previously.Select 3* MTW and UM/CPS...Bid $125, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $130, if rejected close browser and re-access priceline however you did previously.Select 3* MTW and MTE...Bid $125, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $130, if rejected close browser and re-access priceline however you did previously.Select 3* MTW and UM/CPS and MTE...Bid $135, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $140.Any questions feel free to ask.Good Luck and let us know how it goes. supersonic Posted March 11, 2007 Author Report Posted March 11, 2007 Thanks for the advice! I'd be willing to go higher if you think that I should. What do you suggest?
thereuare Posted March 11, 2007 Report Posted March 11, 2007 You can certainly try the above just to rule it out, but my guess is that you're probably looking closer to $175-$200.If the above fails, what is the best rate you been able to find on your own?If you dont' want to go upwards of $200 you can get a room at the Pod Hotel with a private bath for $155... it should be clean (as it's recently renovated) but the rooms are very small.I would try the above bidding strategy first, then if you fail, let us know just how high you're willing to go and we'll revise the strategy for your next round of bidding. I'd also consider including MTS in your bidding (assuming that area is 'ok' with you) as there are some 3* properites in that zone which often accept bids when other areas do not. supersonic Posted March 12, 2007 Author Report Posted March 12, 2007 I'm going to book the Pod hotel right now as a backup. It's $155 plus taxes with the link that you provided.I'd like to try it again - willing to go up to $170. I thought I was clear on the steps to take from reading about rebidding on priceline, but obviously something went wrong because after a few tries the Priceline site told me I'd have to wait 72 hours to bid again. I think what's throwing me off is the rebid zones. Thanks for your help!
thereuare Posted March 12, 2007 Report Posted March 12, 2007 The lock-out period is only 24 hours... not 72 hours, so you should be able to try again after 24 hours from your previously rejected bid.Did you close the browser and re-access priceline at the time instructed above, or did you simply keep adding zones upon each rejection? supersonic Posted March 12, 2007 Author Report Posted March 12, 2007 Here's what I think is throwing me off. Taken from previous post:You have one re-bid zone when bidding 3* in NYC. Select 3* MTW...Bid $110, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $120, if rejected close browser and re-access priceline however you did previously.Select 3* UM/CPS...Bid $110, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $120, if rejected close browser and re-access priceline however you did previously.Select 3* MTE...Bid $110, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $120, if rejected close browser and re-access priceline however you did previously.1. What does one re-bid zone mean?2. "Bid $110, if rejected add re-bid zone....." - which zone? I'm blonde, but I swear I'm not dense. :-)
thereuare Posted March 12, 2007 Report Posted March 12, 2007 Have you read thru Priceline Re-Bidding Explained? If so, and you're still confused, list each NYC Priceline zone and the highest star rating avaialble in each zone, using the following techniuqe (taken from the previous link):The way to check what star levels are available in each zone is to open a Priceline page, check ONLY the zone you are inquiring about, and then proceed to the next page (as if you were going to select a zone)... this will give you the available star ratings in that area. You can then hit BACK on your browser, uncheck the current box, check the next box, and repeat the process. It is important to do this before EACH attempt at adding a zone that you really don't want, as new hotels can be added and the star ratings can change at any time. (NOTE: for most users Priceline has updated their interface making the above process easier... simply check a zone and note the highest star rating available within each zone, UNcheck that zone and checkmark the next zone, repeating the process) Please use this HOTWIRE and these PRICELINE LINKS: HOTELS, CAR RENTALS, and AIRFARE to begin your travel purchases
supersonic Posted March 13, 2007 Author Report Posted March 13, 2007 GOT IT!! Thank you so much.OK, I'm willing to go higher. Let's try $160.00. Advice?
thereuare Posted March 13, 2007 Report Posted March 13, 2007 Feel free to confirm your re-bid zones with the board if you want to make sure. Here an updated strategy, you can stop at whatever price you choose:Select 3* MTW...Bid $120, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $130, if rejected close browser and re-access priceline however you did previously.Select 3* UM/CPS...Bid $120, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $130, if rejected close browser and re-access priceline however you did previously.Select 3* MTE...Bid $120, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $130, if rejected close browser and re-access priceline however you did previously.Select 3* MTW and UM/CPS...Bid $135, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $140, if rejected close browser and re-access priceline however you did previously.Select 3* MTW and MTE...Bid $135, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $140, if rejected close browser and re-access priceline however you did previously.Select 3* MTW and UM/CPS and MTE...Bid $145, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $150.I still doubt the above will be successful, but i'd start with that just to rule it out, and we can revise the numbers to try again in 24 hours up to your limit ($160 or $170, whichever you decide) Please use this HOTWIRE and these PRICELINE LINKS: HOTELS, CAR RENTALS, and AIRFARE to begin your travel purchases
supersonic Posted March 13, 2007 Author Report Posted March 13, 2007 OK - tried, but no luck. I'm willing to go up to $170.00.
thereuare Posted March 13, 2007 Report Posted March 13, 2007 24 hours after your last rejected bid i'd try as follows:Select 3* MTW...Bid $135, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $145, if rejected close browser and re-access priceline however you did previously.Select 3* UM/CPS...Bid $135, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $145, if rejected close browser and re-access priceline however you did previously.Select 3* MTE...Bid $135, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $145, if rejected close browser and re-access priceline however you did previously.Select 3* MTW and UM/CPS...Bid $155, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $160, if rejected close browser and re-access priceline however you did previously.Select 3* MTW and MTE...Bid $155, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $160, if rejected close browser and re-access priceline however you did previously.Select 3* MTW and UM/CPS and MTE...Bid $165, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $170.Good Luck and keep us updated.
