Priceline Hotel: Chicago 7/20-7/22

I will be in Chicago for July 20th-22nd as well for a Cubs game. I have tried bids unsuccessfully up to $107 for a 4 star and $101 for a 3 star for that weekend. Hotwire has a 3 star available for $89 (Tremont?). At what rate do you suppose that these hotels go for, and should I be doing it now or waiting? Travelzoo will likely be posting summer deals in the next couple of weeks as well.

Which zone(s) have you already bid?

How about the Hilton Towers or the Palmer House for $130/nite? They're each cancellable (and have no booking fee, so only ~$17 more per nite than you've already bid) so you can use these as a back-up while you continue to see if pricing gets any better as you get closer to your dates of travel.

I also found cancellable rates at the Whitehall and Tremont for ~$110/nite each, but i think the above are a better value, but if you prefer these other two let us know and we'll add links to each.

Do either of the Hiltons above work for your needs?

Both of these hotels could potentially work. There are currently four in my group, so double bed occupancy is a must. Not necessarily looking for anything over the top, as we will be out sight seeing for most the time and will just need to place to rest with few amenities necessary. It was a couple of days ago, but I know that I was bidding 4 star Millenium Park and rebid with Midway and also attempted the same strategy with North Michigan & Midway.

double bed occupancy is a must

You can't guarantee this with priceline.

HOTWIRE will allow you to search up to quad occupancy which will ensure enough bedding accomodations for everyone in your group, but if you must have two beds, priceline may not be the best option.

With the above links, searching for 4 adults makes the price jump to $190... but if you're comfortable selecting 2adults/2children (just play it cool and don't have everyone go up to the desk at check-in) you should be able to ensure accomodations for all four of you.

Again, I will be looking for other arrangements up until the time, but this was also quite a deal ($299/night at some sites) and can be used if nothing else comes along. Thank you for the information.
