safetyparamedic Posted February 13, 2007 Report Posted February 13, 2007 I'm looking for a 4* in Manhatten April 18 to April 22Rejected $165Any advice?
thereuare Posted February 14, 2007 Report Posted February 14, 2007 Which zone(s) did you include in your bidding?Which zone(s) are you willing to accept?Do you have a maximum bid in mind? safetyparamedic Posted February 14, 2007 Author Report Posted February 14, 2007 I included all Manhatten Zones as Re-bids. I really don't care where I stay as long as it's nice. I don't plan on staying in the hotel very much.I haven't really thought about a maximum bid yet. I figure there's a lot of time before I need a place. Worst case, I could stay in Newark and take the PATH train in every day.
thereuare Posted February 14, 2007 Report Posted February 14, 2007 Any advice? Can't really offer too much advice until you determine a maximum bid as we wouldn't want to suggest a strategy that went higher than you wanted to spend. You're right that you do have some time between now and your stay, but this is a busy time of year in NYC and hotel prices do go up this time of year.Worst case, I could stay in Newark and take the PATH train in every day. This would be a pretty bad "worse case" scenario as the commute from Newark hotels to the Airport, then to the PATH, then to NYC, will likely take close to over 90 minutes every day... each way!! :) Please use this HOTWIRE and these PRICELINE LINKS: HOTELS, CAR RENTALS, and AIRFARE to begin your travel purchases
safetyparamedic Posted February 14, 2007 Author Report Posted February 14, 2007 I guess I'd like to stay below $200. I would probably take a 3* in MTW, MTS, MTE, or DSF.
thereuare Posted February 14, 2007 Report Posted February 14, 2007 How familiar with NYC are you?Downtown is not typically convenient for the average visitor (unless you have reason to be down there) and you're also not including the UM/CPS zone... is there a reason you're avoiding that area?If you're ready to bid again, are you looking to bid 3* now (which i don't think you've bid yet, correct?) or are you looking to first go up to your limit for a 4* property and then lower to a 3* if that fails? safetyparamedic Posted February 15, 2007 Author Report Posted February 15, 2007 I've been to NYC once for Fleet Week (I was in the Navy). I guess I didn't think about CPS. My plan had been to ride the subway whereever I went, so I didn't think it staying downtown really mattered as long as I'm in Manhatten.I'm probably going to start looking at 3* now rather than wait.
thereuare Posted February 15, 2007 Report Posted February 15, 2007 I would only look to Downtown as a last resort if you first fail in the four midtown zones. As you have presently only bid up to $165... did you first want to go up to $200 for a 4* or did you want to just try for a 3* property? safetyparamedic Posted February 15, 2007 Author Report Posted February 15, 2007 Probably the 3*. My concern is getting there and finding it to be a real dump, but I'm guessing that a 3* should be fine.
thereuare Posted February 15, 2007 Report Posted February 15, 2007 You can book a back-up at the Beekman Tower for $205/nite which is cancellable up until a few days before your stay.To try Priceline, you have one re-bid zone when bidding 3* in NYC. If you're not familiar with re-bidding please read Priceline Re-Bidding Explained and feel free to ask questions and/or confirm your re-bid zones with the board before proceeding.Select 3* UM/CPS...Bid $110, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $120, if rejected close browser and re-access priceline however you did previously.Select 3* MTS...Bid $110, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $120, if rejected close browser and re-access priceline however you did previously.Select 3* MTW...Bid $110, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $120, if rejected close browser and re-access priceline however you did previously.Select 3* MTE...Bid $110, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $120, if rejected close browser and re-access priceline however you did previously.Select 3* UM/CPS and MTS...Bid $125, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $130, if rejected close browser and re-access priceline however you did previously.Select 3* MTE and MTW...Bid $125, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $130, if rejected close browser and re-access priceline however you did previously.Select 3* UM/CPS and MTE...Bid $135, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $140, if rejected close browser and re-access priceline however you did previously.Select 3* MTS and MTW...Bid $135, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $140, if rejected close browser and re-access priceline however you did previously.Select 3* UM/CPS and MTW...Bid $145, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $150, if rejected close browser and re-access priceline however you did previously.Select 3* MTE and MTS...Bid $145, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $150, if rejected close browser and re-access priceline however you did previously.Select 3* UM/CPS and MTW and MTE...Bid $155, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $160, if rejected close browser and re-access priceline however you did previously.Select 3* UM/CPS and MTW and MTS...Bid $155, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $160, if rejected close browser and re-access priceline however you did previously.Select 3* MTE and MTS and UM/CPS...Bid $165, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $170, if rejected close browser and re-access priceline however you did previously.Select 3* MTE and MTS and MTW...Bid $165, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $170, if rejected close browser and re-access priceline however you did previously.Select 3* MTE and MTW and UM/CPS and MTS...Bid $174, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $178.If the above is rejected there is a 3* on HOTWIRE for $179 (best guess is the Paramount or Crowne Plaza hotels) which you can book, or you can book the Beekman Tower as a back-up which is discussed at the top of this post.Any questions feel free to ask.Good Luck and let us know how it goes.
