Can you get the navigational system through hotwire?

I am not sure that I completely understand how this whole system works. It does seem rather good. But I need to get a car and want to try to get the navigational system, possibly, please help.

You can't reserve navigation before your purchase, but if avaialble, the rental counter will rent you a navigational unit for an extra charge.

I'm not sure what you don't understand about the opaque 'system' works.

Please excuse my ignorance, I don't travel. Since I haven't had the need to get a rental car or hotel room before I don't know how these things work. I just want to make sure everything goes well.

I know this is probably going to sound stupid but I don't know what the opaque system is to begin with.

Opaque = Priceline or HOTWIRE

... where you make a purchase without knowing the name of the hotel (or car rental company) that you'll be receiving beforehand.

This is compared to a service like Expedia where you know the exact name of the hotel (or car rental company) before your purchase.

I've rented from HOTWIRE twice. The first time (Hertz-SLC), they gave me a car with a navigational system, without my having asked for it. The second time I asked for it (Hertz-OAK) they wanted an extra fee. (As thereuare stated, " if available, the rental counter will rent you a navigational unit for an extra charge.") They wanted more than a dollar a day extra, so we didn't get it. (I think they wanted about $5/day extra).

I noticed today that Budget charges $49.75 per rental for GPS, and Alamo charges about $12 / day.....
