belmont101 Posted March 6, 2007 Report Posted March 6, 2007 We need a hotel room for this Saturday night (March 10). We have two young children that will be traveling with us (2 adults, 2 children). I have a back-up reservation at the Jersey City Marriott courtyard at $179 that can be cancelled up to the same day of reservation. In the past we got the double tree in Jersey City at $90/night. Over the past few weeks I have been repeatedly bidding for a 3* in Jersey City with no luck up to $100 (all through the savings barn links) and this week have been trying 4* in NYC up to the $140 range with no luckI would consider dropping down to a NYC 3* (not a strong preference on zone, although time square would be great) but my concern is that we might end up with a hotel that has very small rooms (e.g. Paramount). We really need two double beds and/or a double with a pull out couch.Ultimately my strategy is to start bidding up to the $179 rate for a 4* in NYC and then try the Jersey City hotels up to that rate.Questions:1. Is there any strategy that lets me drop the NYC bidding down to 3* but would still allow me to get a room that was big enough for the four of us?2. Is there a risk that an NYC 4* would be too small of a room for two kids?3. Any other feedback?
blindman Posted March 6, 2007 Report Posted March 6, 2007 Hyatt rate is very high for Saturday and their web-site will not let you book for Saturday only.Friday 189.00 Saturday 309.00 Sunday 289.00 Hotwire doesn't have a rate for the Hyatt nor anything else for a Saturday only check in :) Have you considered Meadowlands?Look at the maps for location, can't help with the two kids problem!
thereuare Posted March 6, 2007 Report Posted March 6, 2007 1. Is there any strategy that lets me drop the NYC bidding down to 3* but would still allow me to get a room that was big enough for the four of us?No. I'll also add, see #2 below.2. Is there a risk that an NYC 4* would be too small of a room for two kids?Yes.3. Any other feedback?Very risky to bid in NYC for quad occupancy. The Beekman Tower has a 1BR suite available for $163/nite. It will only show availability if you search for 2adults or 2adults/1child, but there is a bed in the bedroom and a pullout counch in the Living room, if that will work for your needs (other board members have stayed here with quad occupancy and didn't have any problems).Does that work for you?
