thereuare Posted February 11, 2004 Report Posted February 11, 2004 Welcome to BetterBidding! We don't see many low(er) star rated properties because they don't represent as great of a 'deal' (IMO).Many of the fixed costs of running a 1* hotel and a 4* hotel are the same (electricity, water, housekeeping is probably marginal difference, front desk marginal difference, cable television, etc). So to pick a number of what it costs to house a guest in a given nite, let's say it's $25/nite. The 1* hotel that normally charges $40/nite can't discount as much as the 4* hotel that normally charges $150/nite. If each were to cut their 'typical' rate in half, the 4* property would still be making 200% profit while the 1* property would be operating at a loss! With that said, a search for your dates also reveals a 2.5* property that is the same price as the 2* property... and the 2.5* is likely the La Quinta Inn Lakeside or the Holiday Inn Nikki Bird but check what is presented to you with what is shown in our hotel list to make sure we are viewing the same properties (my guess would be the La Quinta since it's been coming up a lot lately). When purchasing a hotel 'blind' we rely on the accuracy of the rating system. While a 4* hotel may be perceived by some of us to really be a 3* hotel, it's usually something that we can live with and are still happy based upon the price paid. However, when you start to get to the lower quality properties, you could get lucky and feel it's a better deal than described, but if you feel that a low rated property is worth even less than the rating assigned to it, than that could spoil a trip!
