beagles Posted February 25, 2007 Report Posted February 25, 2007 I think I know how Priceline works, reading on the web and getting a book from the library about it. I've bid and won 5 hotels in the last couple years. That's not a lot, but I think I know the basics. Maybe you can tell me something that will help.I am traveling alone.Three times I have gotten 4 star hotels in London for $80 or less, before tax. I've always gotten them on the first try, with zone rebids. I did so just two weeks ago, getting Kensington Olympia for $78, before tax. With Heathrow, the only free zone re-bid is Luton if you want 4 stars (Gatwick has 4 stars, Luton doesn't). For 7 days I've been bidding, going as high as $80. The 4 stars run the same at the airport as they do in Central London. People are reporting winning Heathrow bids as low as $58, and many around $80. My bid is for May 2nd, but I saw a winning bid made now for this coming June which was $80 or so.If I lower to 3 star, there is no free re-bid choice within London's airports' zone.Any suggestions? Patience? Why is Heathrow taking so long when I've gotten the others immediately?
Sweetone Posted February 26, 2007 Report Posted February 26, 2007 Have you checked to see availability on some of the hotel websites? It could be there is an event or something else causing availability to be limited. Otherwise, I'd suggest just keep on bidding and don't worry too much. You are still pretty far out on the date, so you have plenty of time to work on this. If you begin to get nervous, you could consider booking a reservation that you can cancel through traditional means. That way, if you get a better deal through Priceline, then you just cancel the other booking.
