This is my first venture into bidding, so am looking for opinions on how to proceed. I am looking for 3 nights pre-cruise March 4-7. I bid yesterday with priceline in the City-San Juan resort level at $85, my bid was rejected. What should I do next? I know nothing about Hotwire. Why or why not should I consider this?

Hotwire doesn't present such a great savings right now for these dates.

I would guess that it will currently take a bid of $115 to be successful on Priceline. However, i don't usually like taking a such a big leap so i'd suggest bidding $100, and then if rejected, wait the 72 hours and if rates at the Wyndham Condado Plaza website are the same (the hotel i think you'd receive) i'd bid $115.

Feel free to touch base again if your $100 bid is rejected and i'll re-confirm my advice to go up to $115 (since a bid at $115 wouldn't be made for nearly a week from now).

Please keep us updated as to your progress (ie- let us know if/when you make the $100 bid and if it's successful/rejected).

Feel free to ask any additional questions you may have :)

From above:

so i'd suggest bidding $100, and then if rejected, wait the 72 hours and if rates at the Wyndham Condado Plaza website are the same (the hotel i think you'd receive) i'd bid $115

So i'd consider raising your bid to $115. If you don't want to bid that high that's your perogative and you can try $100 again (or some other number), but based upon today's rates I think $115 is what it will likely take to be successful. If you are successful, i believe the mostly likely hotel t accept your bid will be the Wyndham Condado Plaza.

Hotwire is no longer showing what i believe to the Wyndham Condado plaza for the length of your stay, but it does appear if you search for the first 2 nites and then separately for the last nite.

Feel free to touch base again right before you bid on Friday if you'd like me to double-check updated prices. (if you do request an update, please also include the info as to whether to increase your bid or not... if i see prices come down i'll comment that it may not be necessary to do so, but knowing your maximum bid will enable me to advise best)
