waiting2retire Posted February 1, 2007 Report Posted February 1, 2007 This will be my first time using Priceline, and I have some knowledge from reading, but would feel more secure with some help from this wonderful site! We'll be in New York for one night only, November 9, 2007 prior to sailing from NY Passenger Terminal on November 10. We are planning to fly in Friday morning (Nov 9), hopefully drop luggage at the hotel prior to check-in, do some sight-seeing and see a Broadway show (theatre at about 52nd St & Broadway).I have been looking at 4* hotels in either Midtown West or Upper Midtown, and tried a $160 bid on Priceline just for the heck of it. I'm sure I actually heard the screen laughing! :) I was really hoping to be able to find something for under $200. Is that likely impossible? Will I have to either reduce to 3* or expand the search area? This will be our first time in New York, and I was really hoping to limit our chances of either getting lost or ripped off by taxis taking the "scenic route".What do you think? If I just keep trying low bids (lots of time), might I get what I'm looking for?
thereuare Posted February 1, 2007 Report Posted February 1, 2007 Welcome to BetterBidding! It's probably a combination of all of the above... you're probably too early, you'll like have to expand your zones and/or lower your star rating, and your current bids are too low.I'd book a cancellable back-up just to protect yourself (use our sister site: HotelsByThePier) and re-visit this stay near the beginning of summer.Any questions in the interim feel free to ask. waiting2retire Posted February 2, 2007 Author Report Posted February 2, 2007 Thanks very much, thereuare. I had a feeling I was looking too early, so I will wait, as you suggested and continue to read here so that I am ready to go when the time is right!Bonnie
waiting2retire Posted February 18, 2007 Author Report Posted February 18, 2007 Just to let you know, I was in the right place at the right time and booked a grossly underpriced (web pricing error) 4* in Midtown Manhatten, and the site is going to honour their error. Next time I'm looking to book a hotel though, I will definitely be back here for help.Thanks.Bonnie
thereuare Posted February 18, 2007 Report Posted February 18, 2007 Glad to hear it!In the future, please feel free post any deals or pricing errors in the Other Deals>>Hotels section of the board so that others may be able to take advantage of them as well.Enjoy your trip to NYC. waiting2retire Posted February 19, 2007 Author Report Posted February 19, 2007 Okay.....I am still pinching myself to see if I will wake up and won't really believe it until I am in the room. I got a one-bedroom suite with butler service :) at the Essex House on Central Park, for $9.00. Yes, you read it right, $9.00 (plus taxes :o ) What does a butler do anyway??? :)
tenerifesharon Posted February 21, 2007 Report Posted February 21, 2007 Fantastic, Bonnie :) Thanks for sharing -- we're all happy for you!!
