lemord Posted February 2, 2004 Report Posted February 2, 2004 Yesterday I read on a cruise vacation message board that someone bid $70 for for a 3 star and received Wyndham Old San Juan for April 24. Since this is the hotel I was hoping for (I would like to stay in the Old Town) and the price was great, I tried the same bid last night. I received a message stating that Priceline was unable to match a hotel to my bid but, if I was willing to add another $22 to my bid price, which would make it $92, I could have another chance at bidding again without having to change any other criteria.I would have bid the extra $22 if I was sure to get Wyndham Old San Juan, but I don't want to pay more than I was willing to spend and then end up with a hotel I do not want. So, I did not bid again. There is availability at the hotel for the dates I need, April 30-May 2 (2nights), and the webrate is identical to the webrate for the date the message board poster bid on $225/night.Thanks.
thereuare Posted February 2, 2004 Report Posted February 2, 2004 Welcome to BetterBidding! While it is possible that raising your bid would land you the Wyndham Old San Juan, it is also <very> possible that you could get the 3* Park Normandie or get upgraded to a resort hotel.I think you have two options:1) If you only want the Wyndham Old San Juan, try searching on Hotwire for your dates and matching the star rating and amenities shown to those that are known to be associated with the property: HOTWIRE HOTELS Puerto Rico. It's not currently showing up for your dates, but inventory can change at any time.2) If you're simply looking for a good deal, and are open to other possibilities, i would bid RESORT level and start at $75 (if accepted at this point in time, this will most likely land you the Wyndham Condado Plaza, so read up on that property before bidding). Bidding Resort removes the possibiity of the Normandie (but also the Wyndham Old San Juan). Also, we refer to Priceline asking you if you want to raise your bid as a 'counter-offer' and these can almost always be had cheaper than they suggest.
