axgurl Posted January 24, 2007 Report Posted January 24, 2007 Hi,My bf and I will be going to NYC in March. We'll be flying into JFK on 3/7/07 and leaving 3/10/07. I'm new to this forum as well as priceline bidding; Just wondering if anyone can help me strategize a bidding plan for either a 4* or 3* hotel in or around Manhattan. We don't really mind splitting either. I was thinking of staying in jersey city the first night (saw some bids for hyatt or doubletree between $65-$75) and the last two nights in NYC. Our hotel budget for all three nights is <$360 including tax and fees. Is this possible? Is it a little too early to bid? Thanks=)
thereuare Posted January 24, 2007 Report Posted January 24, 2007 Welcome to BetterBidding!I don't think that the low rates are available at the Jersey City Hyatt for your dates... plus it's a long haul from JFK to just stay one nite.I'm not so sure your budget is realistic for a 3*/4* in Manhattan especially when your budget above includes taxes and fees (please post future budget references in pre-tax and pre-fee dollars)... have you thought of a gameplan if you're not successful with the opaque suppliers? Where would you stay and how much would it cost? Please use this HOTWIRE and these PRICELINE LINKS: HOTELS, CAR RENTALS, and AIRFARE to begin your travel purchases
axgurl Posted January 24, 2007 Author Report Posted January 24, 2007 Thanks for the tip.I did a little research and found there's a special for the Franklin hotel for $139/night and this hotel is a 3 1/2* hotel. Is that a pretty good price or can i get something better if I bid through priceline? I guess i could accept anything under 450 as my budget.
thereuare Posted January 25, 2007 Report Posted January 25, 2007 From what i know about this property I don't think it would qualify as a 3* by priceline's standards... but i also don't think you'll find similar accomodations for that price. I also don't like the location, but if your budget is firm i would take it.Scratch all the above (well... DO read it, but i think i found something better!)If you can bump your budget to $458 you can book the Eastgate Tower thru Quickbook. This is a much better location for touring the city (2-3 block walk to Grand Central Station) and the reviews are great. Please use our Quickbook link if you decide to go for this property.
