Hotwire Hotel: $86/night? MGM 6-9 of Feb?

Hi - Can you please sanity check my strategy below pls?

OK. It appears that the only two 4.5* hotels on the strip through Hotwire are Caesars and MGM. On the Caesars website it looks like they are completely booked on SAT - i also just called them to confirm.

MGM looks booked on www.Expedia.com, but i just called them and they DO seem to have availability on those 3 days. So I am thinking the 4.5* on Hotwire for $154 is the MGM.

On the MGM website they offer a room for $120, so I am thinking... book the $154 MGM room through Hotwire, get double the diff and, thus $86 per night (before taxes, fees) for 3 nights total cost for moi.

Does that math/strategy make sense or am i smokin' the funny stuff. ;-)

Thanks!

Your reasoning is logical, but there are a few things that could go wrong:

-Mirage is also a 4.5* hotel (although with different amenities, but the amenities could always change)

-hotels could be upgraded/downgraded/added at any time

-the hotel lists aren't complete (and never should be considered so because of the upgrade/downgrade/add aspect)

-Hotwire could have an agreement with some hotels that give 'x' number of rooms on any given nite, regardless of website availability

So it's certainly reasonable, and i like your thinking/logic, but i wouldn't call it a 'sure thing' by any stretch.

I would only act on this if i thought that the Hotwire rate shown for that qulaity hotel is a good price on it's own... if it ends up being the MGM then consider that an added bonus. It's a little bit of a gamble.... but then again, you are heading to Vegas :)

PS- Expedia is known to frequently show rooms not available when there are plenty of vacancies... best place to check for actuall sold-out conditions is at the hotel's own website

thanks thereuare -

did not realize mirage was a possibility. hmm.

there are 3 of us - guys. one room should suffice. i now see that the westin might be avail for $120/night on hotwire, but have heard mixed reviews (that they opened it too soon).

i might try one room at the venetian and split the dates (fri & sat then sun alone) and try to get 3 nights for $400. if not, will grab the westin, because i don't want to risk moving hotels on sunday night using PL for a 4.5* on the strip.

will try to bid tomorrow night. thanks! last min advice?? any idea how much the venetian will go for on a fri and sat on PL for the 6 and 7th of Feb?

How high are you willing to go for the Venetian?

I only ask because i think this is going to be a tough one, as rates for the Venetian are much higher for this Saturday nite than Friday nite.

Check this out: On Hotwire if you search for Friday and Saturday nite, the Venetian isn't shown... search each nite individually and it'll appear for both! Since Saturday is the tough (and more xpensive) nite, and given that it's the middle nite of your stay, i don't know if there is any way to split this up in order to greater the chances of success.

At least the monorail will be up and running by then :)

Thanks thereuare -

Are we 90% sure that the only 4* in Vegas (Near Strip East) is the Westin on Hotwire?

Las Vegas (near Strip East)

4* Westin Casuarina

Amenities: Casino, Restaurant, Pool, Fitness, Hi-Speed Internet, Business

On Hotwire they currently list the amenities above as well as Tennis and Golf "nearby" - i guess anyone could make that claim, ha!

For $120/night - that ain't bad. Thoughts?

As THIS POSTER points out, maybe the Hard Rock is a possibility in this zone? Someting tell me 3 guys away for the weekend wouldn't mind the Hard Rock :)

However, there are likely others besides the Westin and the Hard Rock, as i'm able to pull up at least three 4* hotels in this zone with different descriptions (when using different dates).
