rhubarb Posted January 5, 2007 Report Posted January 5, 2007 I read all the relevant entries here while looking for a hotel at LAX and I bid $55 through savingsbarn.com for a 3* hotel but was turned down. I notice that was a winning bid for later in the year. Should I wait till nearer my date to bid again?
thereuare Posted January 5, 2007 Report Posted January 5, 2007 What is the date(s) of your stay? Please use this HOTWIRE and these PRICELINE LINKS: HOTELS, CAR RENTALS, and AIRFARE to begin your travel purchases
rhubarb Posted January 6, 2007 Author Report Posted January 6, 2007 Ooops! Sorry for leaving out my date. :) I need an overnight stay on the 18th of this month.
thereuare Posted January 6, 2007 Report Posted January 6, 2007 Rates are a bit higher than usual for this date. What is the best deal you can find outside of the opaque providers? What is your maximum bid? Please use this HOTWIRE and these PRICELINE LINKS: HOTELS, CAR RENTALS, and AIRFARE to begin your travel purchases
rhubarb Posted January 6, 2007 Author Report Posted January 6, 2007 Going by the successful bids I thought my bid to priceline wuld be successful. Perhaps a bid of $65?[it says that I'm receiving replies to this thread but I'm not! Help! :) :)
thereuare Posted January 6, 2007 Report Posted January 6, 2007 It says that I'm receiving replies to this thread but I'm not! When you click on OPTIONS>>TRACK THIS TOPIC, which of the following do you have selected: No Email NotificationThis option will not send out any email notification but will retain the topic or forum in your subscriptions panel. Delayed Emailed NotificationThis option will send out a notification if a new topic or reply has been made and you're not active on the board. Immediate Email NotificationThis option will send out a notification immediately after a new topic or reply has been made regardless of your activity. Daily Email DigestThis option will send out a daily digest showing all new replies or topics for that day Weekly Email DigestThis option will send out a weekly digest showing all new replies or topics for that week The default is the second one, "Delayed Email Notification" which will not send out an email notification if you have been on the board within 15 minutes before a reply is made (you are not considered 'inactive' until you have not clicked a page/link for at least 15 minutes). So if you leave the board and 10 minutes later a reply is made, you will not receive notification. If you want to receive an email regardless of your activity, select the "Immediate Email Notification" option. Also, check your BULK FOLDER to make sure the emails aren't there and/or add 'betterbidding.com' to your email whitelist.Back to your bidding...Yes, often we will see $55 be enough... but there are many posts on the board where it has not been enough.I would try again (tonite if it's been 24 hours since your last rejected bid) at $60 and if rejected try again 24 hours later at $65. Your maximum bid should be based upon what you'd be spending if you aren't successful with any of the opaque suppliers... but i dont' think you're too far off.Let us know how it goes. rhubarb Posted January 7, 2007 Author Report Posted January 7, 2007 Thanks so much for your invaluable advice, thereuare. I tried again and submitted a bid (through Savingsbarn.com as usual) for 3* at lax @ $60 and it was successful 1st time. :) :) :o
thereuare Posted January 7, 2007 Report Posted January 7, 2007 Glad it only took a few dollars more. What hotel did you receive? Please use this HOTWIRE and these PRICELINE LINKS: HOTELS, CAR RENTALS, and AIRFARE to begin your travel purchases
rhubarb Posted January 7, 2007 Author Report Posted January 7, 2007 Yes it was the Crowne Plaza. I am delighted! :)
tkduke77 Posted January 7, 2007 Report Posted January 7, 2007 rhubarb,Let me know how your stay goes. I have a room reserved there in may. :)
josephsc Posted January 8, 2007 Report Posted January 8, 2007 By the way, if you have a car, you can sometimes save yourself a few more bucks by looking for street-parking on W.98th street (behind the hotel) rather than using hotel parking (something like $15/day). Street-parking tends to be hard to come by, however.
rhubarb Posted January 8, 2007 Author Report Posted January 8, 2007 tkduke77---I am back in the U.K on 20th January and shall add my feedback for you then.
tkduke77 Posted January 10, 2007 Report Posted January 10, 2007 Scottish huh? I spent a few great days in Edinburgh and Glasgow in 2003. :)
RuleBreaker Posted January 12, 2007 Report Posted January 12, 2007 So you bid $60 for a Thursday night, Jan. 18, 2007 and received the Crown Plaza 3star hotel. Great!I tried today, one day after your post, (Jan. 12, 2007) to bid $60 for two rooms for a 3 night stay, beginning the same night and was turned down!Only bid LAX 3star area only.Said for $17 more I could bid same star and same area again, so I did. Got the Radison Hotel at LAX for $77 night (Jan. 18-19-20). I assumed it was higher because of adding a Frid and Sat night. But then their website shows the price DROPS on the weekend nights. So I don't know why it switched to a higher price so quickly.Wonder if it was because you bid 8 nights prior to your stay, I bid six nights prior. Perhaps they only allow so many rooms at a lower price and then raise it.??? Don't know. But you'll like the hotel, it is comfy.
rhubarb Posted January 19, 2007 Author Report Posted January 19, 2007 Yes! I love this hotel. I'm here at present and they couldn't be more helpful and it is so comfortable. tkduke----you will really like this hotel.
tkduke77 Posted February 12, 2007 Report Posted February 12, 2007 Rhubarb,Thanks for the info. Glad you enjoyed it and I am looking forward to it.
