Shell8561 Posted December 31, 2006 Report Posted December 31, 2006 Thereuare,I need help bidding on a hotel in NYC. We stayed a couple years ago at the Hilton Times Square and absolutely loved it, but it's too expensive for this trip. Contrary to a lot of people, we like being in a busy, crowded area. I got that hotel on Memorial Day weekend for $199/night at a regular rate that I booked on my own but have never seen it anywhere near that cheap since. We are going this time on January 12 and possibly the 13th as well for my son's track meet at the Armory Track & Field Center in Washington Heights. We would prefer to stay in midtown Manhattan and take the subway to the armory. I was going to start out by bidding only in Midtown West, but since we only have a couple weeks to go, would you suggest I try for more than one area? We also have stayed at the Comfort Inn Manhattan, which I liked, although the room was very small for four people. This time it will just be two of us, so it doesn't really matter. I would like to bid on a 4-star if you think I could get it for a reasonable price but, if not, please advise me how much to bid and what areas I should go for. If we can a good enough rate, we would probably stay for two nights but otherwise, it would just be Friday, the 12th. Thanks so much for your help, as I really don't know what I'm doing.Shell
thereuare Posted December 31, 2006 Report Posted December 31, 2006 Welcome to BetterBidding!I would bid more zones than just MTW, not necessarily because you are only a few weeks away from your date, but more so because i view MTE, MTW, and UM/CPS to all be relatively similar in terms of convenience. All 4* hotels that have been reported in these areas are convenient to mass transit/subways and there is little reason to pay more for one zone over another. However, it's your stay so i don't know if this is acceptable to you or not.Let us know if you're willing to bid all three zones above or not and what is your maximum bid... we'll then be able to suggest a strategy for you to follow. Shell8561 Posted January 1, 2007 Author Report Posted January 1, 2007 thereuare,Thanks for replying. I guess it doesn't make any difference if all of those zones are in convenient locations and the areas are relatively safe. I'd like to try to keep the price under $140 if possible. When we stayed at the Comfort Inn Manhattan before, I got that for $139 but the cheapest rate now I've been able to find is $160. That was a good location and also included a nice breakfast. I would think the middle of January would be an off time to go and the rates would be at their lowest, but maybe not. If I can get the rate cheap enought, we'd like to stay two nights but, if not, we'll probably cut it down to one. I'll wait to hear back from you as to what I should do. Thanks for your help.

Shell8561 Posted September 9, 2007 Author Report Posted September 9, 2007 I did not bid on that trip because it ended up that we had more than two people going and I didn't want to take a chance on there being only one bed in a room. I found a rate on my own that was reasonable and right in the Times Square area.
