Multi-island car rental deals

Hello, I am travelling to Oahu, Maui, and Hawaii from 1/16 to 1/30 and would like to make a 2 week car rental reservation to cut costs. Different sites have indicated that you can make a multi-island reservation with the major companies--I can't figure out how to do this online. I'm wondering...

1. Do I have to call the companies? If so, will I forfeit online deals?

2. Is it better just to make separate reservations?

You would certainly be renting from two different rental locations, so i don't understand the advantage of making both reservations from the same company, unless they link the reservations together and treat them as one continuous rental (which i have never heard of).
