mtnmom Posted December 6, 2006 Report Posted December 6, 2006 I've read rebid info. re Priceline. We have a dr. appt in NYC (for son who's 15). Appt. is in Union Square. However, we want be close to shopping (Bloomingdales, 5th Ave) and to a subway so we can get down to Union Square on the 18th. Mom (me) and son want safe/good place (prefer place with mini fridge/microwave if possible)--max bid up to $160 (which after 20% taxes would put me at $190-200 (correct?). Given cost of seeing specialist, we need reas. price and less than $160 much preferred. Any thoughts, ideas (I understand I select areas and rebid adding zone that has no 4 hotel to increase my odds of getting 4 hotel in area I want. My quick perusal says upper east side looks weak and best bet is mte and mtw. Thoughts, help? Profound thanks from the mtns!
thereuare Posted December 6, 2006 Report Posted December 6, 2006 ...prefer place with mini fridge/microwave if possibleThese are very rate in NYC hotels, nor is this something you can request when you place your bid. The deep discounts received are in exchange for being flexible in the hotel received.want be close to shopping and to a subway Again, you must be able to accept a hotel anywhere within the shaded region which defines the boundaries of the zone you're bidding on. On a positive front almost all known midtown hotels (MTE, MTW, and UM/CPS) hotels are near a subway, except the Millenium UN (previously reported as a 3*) which is about a 10 minute walk to the subway, although there is a bus that stops right near the hotel that could take you to the subway station. I wouldn't worry too much about not being near a subway to get to Union Square, as from most midtown locations it would probably be less than a $10 cab ride (taxis in NYC are readily available and inexpensive)If i understand correctly you're looking for a 4* hotel in MTE or MTW... is there a reason you're avoiding UM/CPS? Let us know if we can/should include that in a bidding strategy. Please use this HOTWIRE and these PRICELINE LINKS: HOTELS, CAR RENTALS, and AIRFARE to begin your travel purchases
mtnmom Posted December 6, 2006 Author Report Posted December 6, 2006 Thanks much. Skip the fridge, microwave requirements. As for those other areas, we'll consider. Let me know what you think. Subway is concern only if we want to go elsewhere not just Union Square. But for the right price, we'll be flexible!
thereuare Posted December 6, 2006 Report Posted December 6, 2006 As for those other areas, we'll considerSo should we include UM/CPS (which is one zone) in a bidding strategy or not? In any of these zones (MTE, MTW, and UM/CPS) i would not think getting 4* hotel close to a subway will be a problem... all the known 4* properties are conveniently located.
