richs_ca Posted November 27, 2006 Report Posted November 27, 2006 Hi,I'm looking to stay 2 nights in San Diego, December 26 and 27 at a 3* or more property, downtown/gaslamp district. I would like to spend $100 or less per night if possible, and I'm a bit worried about getting the Sheraton Marina, which I would like to avoid if at all possible. Any suggestions on a bidding strategy? Thanks!
thereuare Posted November 27, 2006 Report Posted November 27, 2006 If the Sheraton is in the zone you will not be able to avoid that property if you bid on Priceline.Have you tried searching on HOTWIRE? It may cost you a bit more than Priceline, but you should be able to take an educated guess as to the property (or at least try to avoid a particular property)... is price or the ability to take a guess at the property (and thus try to avoid the Sheraton) more important to you? richs_ca Posted November 27, 2006 Author Report Posted November 27, 2006 I've searched Hotwire, and what appears to be the Sheraton is coming up at $89. What appears to be the Omni is coming up at $169. Ultimately, price will be more important to me, so I'm prepared to risk the Sheraton if the price is right. I would be willing to pay a bit more for something like the Westin, but it's coming up at over $230, which is way too expensive for me.
thereuare Posted November 27, 2006 Report Posted November 27, 2006 At the 3* level you have seven re-bid zones available. If you're not familiar with re-bidding please read Priceline Re-Bidding Explained and feel free to ask questions and/or confirm your re-bid zones with the board before proceeding.Since HOTWIRE is available for $89 and star rating is most important, i'll use an $89 maximum bid (instead of your stated $100).Select 3* Gaslamp...Bid $65, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $70, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $75, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $78, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $80, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $84, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $86, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $89Any questions feel free to ask.Good Luck and let us know how it goes. photomikey Posted December 1, 2006 Report Posted December 1, 2006 I'd suggest trying a 4* downtown first. Some much nicer places available, very close to (and perhaps below) that $100 price point.Even at $110 or $120, IMHO, worth it. Also, you avoid the Sheraton you're hoping to not stay in.
