ryank007 Posted November 19, 2006 Report Posted November 19, 2006 Hello, we want to stay in a moderate hotel for a couple of nights and this is what I found on Hotwire:11/22 - 11/243* - Universal / Sea World AreaPool - Restaurant - High Speed Internet$44 / nightI'm thinking it may be either the Clarion, Radisson, Holiday Inn, or Wyndham. Any other ideas or hunches? Also, is this my best bet, namely, going through Hotwire? We want a decent hotel, clean, but we're not spending a lot of time at the property using the facilities. I just get worried with some of the lower class hotels, like Travelodge, especially when I read reviews of them. Might Priceline be a better choice? I've just never used them before. Many thanks in advance for all the help!!
thereuare Posted November 19, 2006 Report Posted November 19, 2006 The above matches what is currently believed to be shown for the Clarion, so that would be our best guess.HOTWIRE is usually your best option if you would like to have an educated guess as to what the property is before your make your purchase. Priceline is often a little cheaper, but you then have no way to target (or avoid) a specific hotel and need to be willing to accept any hotel in the zone at the given star rating. If you go for the above please use this HOTWIRE link to begin any purchases. If you'd rather try priceline let us know your maximum bid and desired star rating and we'll suggest a strategy to follow.Let us know what you decide and/or how it goes. ryank007 Posted November 20, 2006 Author Report Posted November 20, 2006 Thanks for the help. Actually, I think I might be interested in doing it through Priceline, for a change. Any bidding help is appreciated!I'd like to try to keep it at or near $45 / night for a 3-star, or $35 / night for a 2 1/2-star. I know this seems low, so feel free to laugh and mock. :) The reason why I am shooting so low is because I just found a 2 1/2-star on Hotwire in the Disney Main Gate / Champions Gate area for $29 / night that I am 95% sure is the Best Westen Lakeside (thanks to your hotel list). We have stayed there in the past, and it was not perfect, but OK for what we needed (clean & comfortable). So if you think a better value can be had from Priceline, I will try that, otherwise I will just book the Best Western from Hotwire. Oh, and I promise to use your link! :) Many thanks!!
thereuare Posted November 20, 2006 Report Posted November 20, 2006 When bidding Orlando you have five re-bid zones at the 3* level... four at the 2.5* level (see my comments below regarding 2* bidding). If you're not familiar with re-bidding please read Priceline Re-Bidding Explained and feel free to ask questions and/or confirm your re-bid zones with the board before proceeding.Select 3* Universal/SeaWorld...Bid $30, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $35, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $38, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $40, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $43, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $45.Select 2.5* Universal/SeaWorld...Bid $25, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $28, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $30, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $33, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $35.If the above is rejected, then take the HOTWIRE offer.Any questions feel free to ask.Good Luck and let us know how it goes. ryank007 Posted November 28, 2006 Author Report Posted November 28, 2006 First off, I would like to thank the fine people who run this forum. You make traveling and saving money easy and fun! I took the Priceline bidding advice listed above and got the 3* Wyndham Orlando (on the corner of International Drive and Sand Lake Road) for just $40 / night. It was listed at $95 / night on Priceline's site to buy outright. We stayed 2 nights, 11/22-11/24. Although the hotel is a bit on the older side, it is very clean and well maintained. The beds were comfortable, which is a big plus in my book. All in all, a great price for a 3* hotel.
