retropia Posted November 17, 2006 Report Posted November 17, 2006 I started bidding $37 for a 2.5* property in Mission Valley, which wasn't accepted. I then went up to $39 and added the Coronado area, which doesn't have a 2.5*. The additional areas I bidded also don't have a 2.5*. I went to $41 and added East County. Then I went to $43 and added Escondido. Then I went to $45 and added Miramar. That bid was accepted, for a 3* property in Mission Valley, which is the area I really wanted to stay. I suppose it's possible I could have ended up in Coronado, which only has 3* and 4* properties, but I figured my bids were way too low for that area. The property is the Holiday Inn Mission Valley Stadium. Three nights at $45 came to $135. Plus taxes and services fees of $23.85, my total is $158.85.The best base rate on Hotwire for a 3* property in Mission Valley was $69. On the Holiday Inn website, the least expensive rate for this hotel was $119, which required an advance purchase. So, I'm pretty happy about my win.
