thereuare Posted November 13, 2006 Report Posted November 13, 2006 The hotel market is the strongest it has been in MANY years. The opaque providers typically get excess inventory, and with occupancy levels very high, there isn't as much excess inventory as there has been in the past. As a result, many hotels may not feel the need to offer inventory to the opaque suppliers, offer only far in advance of the stay (or very close to the stay), or may load prices that are higher than they have been in the past. Please use this HOTWIRE and these PRICELINE LINKS: HOTELS, CAR RENTALS, and AIRFARE to begin your travel purchases
chen Posted November 13, 2006 Report Posted November 13, 2006 I've had a lot of luck getting hotels from the Hyatt chain for substantially lower than listed prices through priceline throughout the country (eg., San Fran, New Orleans [pre-Katrina], D.C.). I figured the same would hold true in LA, especially with so many Hyatt hotels. As we can see, this was not the case.I am curious to know whether this current trend holds true for Hyatt hotels in other places. Perhaps the Hyatt is releasing less inventory to PL? If someone had a lot of time, they could crunch out some statistics from this website and create some cool charts, which would enable us to see potential trends. I'd be curious to see which hotel brands gave the deepest PL discounts nationwide over the last few years (my guess is Hyatt). Although I think it's a good idea, I'm not volunteering! :) Anyway, it looks like you need to head downtown or LAX if you want good PL deals in LA.
Captain Jack Posted November 14, 2006 Author Report Posted November 14, 2006 Well that's just peachy. Thanks for the replies. I am not going to give up, and will keep everyone posted about what happens. This forum is a great asset if you use priceline or HOTWIRE.I always bid using the SavingsBarn.com link.
