buckeyejer Posted October 31, 2006 Report Posted October 31, 2006 Hello. New to forum but I don't see any info on weekend of 12/8-12/10 in NYC. I want a 4* and would prefer Midtown-West but any of Midtown will probably do, maybe even parts of Central Park areas. If anyone can provide me a basic strategy I would be very appreciative. Thanks.
AaronJB Posted October 31, 2006 Report Posted October 31, 2006 Availability on these dates appears to be quite limited, with higher than normal prices seemingly across the board. What would be the max you would want to spend?
buckeyejer Posted October 31, 2006 Author Report Posted October 31, 2006 Would love to keep it under $300, but I might be willing to go up to $399 based on what I've seen at Yahoo Travel, Hotels.com, etc. Am I in the ballpark? way too high?
AaronJB Posted October 31, 2006 Report Posted October 31, 2006 Not sure if anything will come up due to high rates and a lot of hotels being completely booked. Others who have more NYC bidding experience may be of greater assistance, but based on the 4* rates I'm seeing in Midtown, I'd have to imagine $300 would be the starting bid for those areas. If you're willing to take a lesser hotel in order to save some $, the 2* Pickwick Arms in Midtown does have double bed private bath rooms on Expedia.com for $259. That hotel gets some mixed reviews on tripadvisor, but most recent reviews have been positive.
KatiesMom Posted November 3, 2006 Report Posted November 3, 2006 I'm coming to New York that weekend also, it is considered a "blackout" time meaning there are very very few deals as most hotels are full and have waiting lists. It is all about supply and demand. A week later and prices go back to normal rates and there are bargains to be had.You can try bidding priceline. You could start with 4* MTW for $290, if rejected go to $300 and add MTE, and so on, gradually adding a zone and increasing your bids by $10. At the end, add in UES and UWS one at a time, as those are your free re-bid zones because there are not any 4* hotels in those areas, so it is like getting more bids in the same zones. If you want a nice 3.5* hotel, the only I know with halfway decent rates is the Affina 50 (affinia.com), and that is around $500. Sad, but true.
buckeyejer Posted November 3, 2006 Author Report Posted November 3, 2006 Thank you so much for the info.
