lyce Posted October 9, 2006 Report Posted October 9, 2006 Hi, I'm in New York for a week from 25th Oct -1st Nov. A friend is joining us for the weekend, 27-30th, so I need 1 room for the week and 2 for the weekend. I've been bidding all over the city and Jersey, splitting the week into 3 and have had no luck so far up to $200 in Manhatten and $120 in Jersey. I have a backup reservation at the Courtyard in Jersey but don't want to pay that much if I can help it. I'm willing to take any level hotel above a 2* but would like to keep the bids to under $200 a night. Is this going to be possible? Thanks for any advice
blindman Posted October 9, 2006 Report Posted October 9, 2006 You seem to be doing everything right. What are the rates for Jersy City at the weekend? (Frid-Sunday).What does HOTWIRE have for those dates?Any thoughts on staying in a Secaucus Hotel?
thereuare Posted October 9, 2006 Report Posted October 9, 2006 Based upon current rates, for the first two legs of your stay, your bids are not high enough. You're not too far off, maybe $225-$250 should do it, but not sure if you want to go that high or seek alternate plans or continue to wait it out. How much is your rate at the Courtyard? For the last leg of your stay (10/30-11/1) HOTWIRE has a few sub-$200 options at the 3* and 3.5* levels. Have you actually bid for these two nites on their own up to $200 at a 2* minimum as you state above... or have i misinterpretted something? lyce Posted October 9, 2006 Author Report Posted October 9, 2006 Hi, thanks for the replies. I booked the Courtyard for $214 a night for the week, $174 for the weekend nights. I've seen the Hotwire rates for the last 2 nights and have bid to $200 for a 3* on Priceline. I've bid 2* in Downtown and Jersey so far and had no luck. I wasn't going to bid 2* in the other areas until I get desperate. What kind of price would I need to bid for a 2* anywhere in Manhatten?Blindman, I looked at Seacaucus but dont want to be any further out for the sake of the person joining us for the weekend as its his first time thereand he only has 3 days.I have been using the links to bid!
lyce Posted October 9, 2006 Author Report Posted October 9, 2006 I've just noticed that the Hyatt appears to be on Hotwire for my last 5 nights at $282. Any idea how much it would go for on Priceline?
thereuare Posted October 9, 2006 Report Posted October 9, 2006 I've bid 2* in Downtown and Jersey so far and had no luckWhich NYC zones are you bidding... just Downtown?I've seen the Hotwire rates for the last 2 nights and have bid to $200 for a 3* on PricelineGiven the HOTWIRE rates, why would you bid more than that on Priceline? Since you've been rejected at higher bids than is currently being offered, why would you just take one of the HOTWIRE offer(s)?I've just noticed that the Hyatt appears to be on Hotwire for my last 5 nights at $282Much more than $120 Please use this HOTWIRE and these PRICELINE LINKS: HOTELS, CAR RENTALS, and AIRFARE to begin your travel purchases
lyce Posted October 16, 2007 Author Report Posted October 16, 2007 I ended up booking a hotel in Jersey direct for the first 2 nights and then I got the Hyatt and Intercontinental for the other 5 nights for around $175 a night.
