Priceline Hotel: No 5* hotels left?

There is no longer 5* bidding offered in NYC.

I'm assuming you will still be coming to NYC even though there is no 5* bidding available? If so, please turn this into a useful post for everyone by including the dates of your stay... and if you'd like help with a strategy let us know what star level you're seeking, what your maximum budget is, and which zones you're willing to accept.

We don't want this thread to follow a similar fate as your Seoul Korea thread which has no conclusion or what you ultimately did for that stay... so please provide the information above and follow-up this thread with the details of your hotel pursuit and ultimate conclusion.

Apologies for not following up on the Seoul, Korea trip. I have since posted a conclusion to that thread.

As far as this thread, there is still a trip to NYC. As I indicated in my first post, the date range is January 11-January 16. Given that 5* isn't available, I'd have to move to a 4* hotel. Desire is to stay MTE or UES. Current Expedia prices are about $200, so it would have to be down around $150 as a limit to make PL worthwhile.

Any suggestions?

There are no 4* hotels in the UES zone, so that just leaves your possible zones at MTE. Most users bid on MTE, MTW, and UM/CPS (and MTS when demand is high, not likely to be the case during this time of year)... is there a reason you're avoiding these zones?

Let us know and we'll suggest a strategy to follow, just trying to maximize your bidding opportunities and help you get the best deal, if you dont' really need to be restricted to the east side.

You can also read our own Priceline NYC Zone Descriptions which describes each zone in detail if you're not familiar with the area.

Thanks. I live in NYC. My parents are visiting, so I'm very familiar with the zones.

I am looking for MTE and UES because that is most conducive to where I live and to the activites we are going to do together. West side and further downtown make it inconvenient enough (depending on which hotel was selected) that we'd be better off paying for a hotel of choice on Hotels.com or similar.

So, in short, yes, somewhat restricted to East side.

The following may be too low, but i think you have enough time to lowball (and also i have a good back-up hotel afterwards if you are rejected).

At the 4* level you have two re-bid zones. If you're not familiar with re-bidding please read Priceline Re-Bidding Explained and feel free to ask questions and/or confirm your re-bid zones with the board before proceeding.

Select 4* MTE...

Bid $110, if rejected add re-bid zone1...

Bid $120, if rejected close browser and re-access priceline however you did previously.

Select 4* MTE and re-bid zone2...

Bid $125, if rejected add re-bid zone1...

Bid $130.

If the above is rejected just report back and we'll revise/advise accordingly.

In the meantime, i'd book a cancellable back-up. You can book the Beekman Tower for $185/nite which generally gets great reviews, and satisfies your budget and geographic criteria.
