This is my first post so "Hello!"

I am planning on going to New York City and will arrive on 10/13 and leave on 10/17. I have a backup room already. I would like to bid on a room in MTE,MTW,MTS, or UM-CPS for a 3 or 4 star hotel. I already understand the bid rebid process but would like advice on possibly splitting my dates and any other assistance available.

I am also monitoring hotwire but current prices there are still relatively high.

Thanks,

Mike

Are you looking to go up to your maximum bid for a 4* and then try for a 3*... or are you simply looking for the least expensive 3* or better at $170 or less?

Have you tried bidding for your complete stay already up to $170 and were rejected?

Are you only willing to SPLITTING YOUR PRICELINE BID once during this stay?

Where, and how much, is your back-up reservation?

I'm looking for the least expensive 3 star or better.

My backup is at the Radisson Lexington for an average of $239 a night so I'm willing to raise my max if it fails. I haven't bid for a few days now but my last try clearly failed.

I would ideally only want to split once but if it were worthwhile I would at least consider the idea of switching twice.

I just bid this morning for three stars in MTE,MTS,UMCPS, and MTW and I bid up to 193 for all and was rejected. I would like suggestions about when I should split my bid from 10/13 to 10/17

Would you consider staying in Jersey City for all or part of this stay as i think you can save SIGNIFICANTLY over staying directly in Manhattan. From Jersey City there is easy access to Manhattan via PATH train which is available 24/7 and depending upon which hotel you win/receive (as each of the higher rated hotels are next to a different station), trip to downtown is under 10 minutes... trip to midtown is about 20 minutes.

Jersey City seems like a realistic option. I see that a hotel matching the Hyatt was available for 114 (hotwire) earlier today but it now appears to have skyrocketed. Regardless, i would consider bidding in the 3 4 star level for this area if i can save some money.

Unfortunately that Jersey City option has disappeared from HOTWIRE as that would have been great for the dates above. If you still want to give this area a try you have one re-bid zone available at the 3* level. If you're not familiar with re-bidding please read Priceline Re-Bidding Explained and feel free to ask questions and/or confirm your re-bid zones with the board before proceeding.

Select 3* Jersey City...

Bid $65, if rejected add re-bid zone...

Bid $75.

I would try the above for your complete stay, 10/13-10/17, and then if rejected repeat for the following dates:

10/13-10/16

10/13-10/15

Any questions feel free to ask.

Good Luck and let us know how it goes.

We ended up changing our mind regarding NJ. I am going to continue to try for a priceline hotel to replace my $239/night backup but plan on staying in Manhattan in MTW,MTE,MTS, or UM-CPS

Success: I just bid today for MTE starting at $175 for a 4* and received the Grand Hyatt for 10/13-10/15. I extended my stay for $239 to tuesday (17) which was less of a deal but i'd rather not switch hotels.

I used the savings barn link!
