sr63 Posted October 1, 2006 Report Posted October 1, 2006 My neighbor won 1st bid on MTW priceline the Monday before trip 9/22-24/06 and got the Hilton New York for $125.I am going to NYC on 10/06-08 and was hoping to get the same Hilton for close to that amount. I bid $175 on priceline (misunderstood neighbor's bid to be $175) NYC MTW on 9/29 and was rejected. I rebid the same NYC MTW 10 minutes later at $190 and was rejected. I stopped at $190 because I really didn't want to pay much more than that. Since then I found your website and while it is helpful I'm still have a couple of questions that I couldn't find on the treads.Since I have already bid up to $190 does that mean I have to go higher or can I start over at $125?
Tbud Posted October 1, 2006 Report Posted October 1, 2006 Hey there - I just completed mine for October 7-9. Got the Grand Hyatt for $205. FYI
thereuare Posted October 1, 2006 Report Posted October 1, 2006 Your future bids (after 24 hours) have no relevance to your next bid... you can start high, lower, or the same.Is MTW the only zone you're willing to accept? sr63 Posted October 1, 2006 Author Report Posted October 1, 2006 Thanks for the bidding info. This website is great!MTW is my first choice only because I was trying to book the Hilton New York. What other zones are good for the theater district? $190 is my top bid. Is there something going on this weekend to drive the prices up?
thereuare Posted October 1, 2006 Report Posted October 1, 2006 It's peak season in NYC... there is a BIG difference in price from the summer (and beginning of September) to October. If you've already been rejected up to your limit in the MTW zone, and getting deals has been tough this Fall season, i'd recommend bidding as many areas as you're willing to accept (i'd recommend MTE, MTW, and UM/CPS... and possibly MTS as well). Wouldn't it be better to get a hotel within your budget and to take a subway (or under $10 cab ride) to the theater district than to spend more than you would need to on a hotel room? NYC is so compact, and mass transit cheap and readily avaialable, that usually any area within midtown you can easily make work for your needs. You can read more about each zone in this New York City Priceline Zone Descriptions thread. Another good resource is our own Priceline Maps which will give you a visual of how close/far each area is to the theater district (don't forget you'll likely be exploring other areas of the city during the day and will only be heading towards the theater at nite)Let us know which zones you're willing to accept and we'll suggest a strategy for you to follow. sr63 Posted October 1, 2006 Author Report Posted October 1, 2006 I'll try MTW, MTE, and UM/CPS... and possibly MTS. What sequence do you recommend?
thereuare Posted October 2, 2006 Report Posted October 2, 2006 ... and possibly MTSThis doesn't tell us how to provide a strategy for you... we need to know if we should or shouldn't include MTS. sr63 Posted October 2, 2006 Author Report Posted October 2, 2006 Let's just do 4* MTW, MTE, and UM/CPS for now.
thereuare Posted October 2, 2006 Report Posted October 2, 2006 When bidding 4* in NYC you have two re-bid zones available. If you're not familiar with re-bidding please read Priceline Re-Bidding Explained and feel free to ask questions and/or confirm your re-bid zones with the board before proceeding.Select 4* MTW...Bid $140, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $150, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $160, if rejected close browser and re-access priceline however you did previously.(**if your previous priceline bid was placed within the last 24 hours ignore the bids above and start with the steps below**)Select 4* MTE...Bid $140, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $150, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $160, if rejected close browser and re-access priceline however you did previously.Select 4* UM/CPS...Bid $140, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $150, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $160, if rejected close browser and re-access priceline however you did previously.Select 4* MTE and MTW...Bid $165, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $170, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $175, if rejected close browser and re-access priceline however you did previously.Select 4* MTE and UM/CPS...Bid $165, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $170, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $175, if rejected close browser and re-access priceline however you did previously.Select 4* MTE and MTW and UM/CPS...Bid $180, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $185, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $190.Any questions feel free to ask.Good Luck and let us know how it goes. sr63 Posted October 2, 2006 Author Report Posted October 2, 2006 I decided to try bidding on my own as it was getting late and I wanted to go ahead and try. Here's the sequence I chose, but I was only able to bid 3 times:4* MTW $151... rejected4* MTW added MTE $161...rejected4* MTW, MTE added UM/CPS $186...rejectedwent back to priceline through www.SavingsBarn.com4* MTE $151...came back duplicated request for this trip4*MTE + MTW $186...rejected duplicated request for this trip4*MTE, MTW added UM/CPS $190...rejected duplicated request for this tripCould you please explain the re-bid zone process for each series. Obviously, I did something wrong.
thereuare Posted October 2, 2006 Report Posted October 2, 2006 I decided to try bidding on my own as it was getting late and I wanted to go ahead and try...So did you try before we posted the strategy above?Did you read the strategy above (and related link?) Please use this HOTWIRE and these PRICELINE LINKS: HOTELS, CAR RENTALS, and AIRFARE to begin your travel purchases
sr63 Posted October 2, 2006 Author Report Posted October 2, 2006 Yes, I tried before you posted the strategy.I have read the related link to the re-bidding and I think I understand which zones to use on the re-bids.I will try your strategy later when my 24 hr wait is up.
sr63 Posted October 3, 2006 Author Report Posted October 3, 2006 Just bid the 4* strategy you suggested last night and had no luck. Last bid $190. Can you give me a 3* strategy for MTW, MTE and UM/CPS for cap at $215 so I can try bidding tonight? Then can you suggest 4* strategy for MTW, MTE and UM/CPS for cap at $250....thanks
thereuare Posted October 3, 2006 Report Posted October 3, 2006 As it is now morning and the last time we provided a strategy you had already bid on your own, did you already try last nite? Before bidding again i would suggest determining your TRUE maximum bid... it doesn't make sense to bid up to $190 for a 4* and then increase your bid to $215 while lowering your star rating at the same time. As you can see, the strategies suggested make sure that you don't overbid, so if you'd prefer a higher star rated hotel, i would sooner try for a 4* up to $250 (after your 24 hour lock-out expires) and then try for a 3* up to $215 (if that is your current mindset) Please use this HOTWIRE and these PRICELINE LINKS: HOTELS, CAR RENTALS, and AIRFARE to begin your travel purchases
sr63 Posted October 3, 2006 Author Report Posted October 3, 2006 I bid the 4* strategy you provided on 10/01 but did not bid the 3*. I know it doesn't sound right to bid more on a 3* than I was willing to previoulsy on a 4*, but it is getting closer to the weekend and now I realize it is a holiday weekend (Columbus day) for some so maybe that is driving the prices up more. Please provide strategy for 4* MTW, MTE, UM/CPS with cap at $250 then strategy for 3* MTW, MTE, UM/CPS with cap at $205
sr63 Posted October 4, 2006 Author Report Posted October 4, 2006 I decided to add MTS on the 4* only. Please include on my last strategy request.
sr63 Posted October 4, 2006 Author Report Posted October 4, 2006 Got a 4* MTE Grand Hyatt New York for $185Found a strategy you had given to someone recently and bid it as follows:4* MTWBid $150 rejectedBid $175 + re-bid zone rejectedBid $185 + re-bid zone rejected4* MTEBid $150 rejectedBid $175 + re-bid zone...rejectedBid $185 + re-bid zone ACCEPTED!!!What a relief. Thanks to your web site I was able to get a great deal for this time of the year. Looking forward to a fun weekend...
thereuare Posted October 4, 2006 Report Posted October 4, 2006 Congratualtions on your win... glad to hear it all worked out for you and you're pleased with the results. Also take my other advice often posted on the board and try Ess-A-Bagel one morning for breakfast... it's a good, inexpensive, NYC breakfast and has one of the best bagels in the city (imo).Enjoy your stay.
