LotzOStuff Posted September 26, 2006 Report Posted September 26, 2006 Using the SAVINGS BARN LINK, I had the following rejected bids... :) Downtown Hotel, 9/29 - 10/1 (Fri and Sat nights)Rejected bid history51 - 61 - 71 - 76 - 81 - 86 - 91 - 96 - 101Was going to rebid with the Sunday night stay included, but it wouldn't let me go through my 9 rebids again. I presume i need to open a new bid and try it in a different window (thru the Savings Barn link again...)Any advice on winning this would be appreciaited. Ideally I can get these two nights downtown and then a cheap airport hotel the last night, but I would be willing to stay downtown all three if it would help. I read all the info on splitting bids, and it seems like this is the way to do it. Does it make any sense to think that a longer stay may be accepted as they want to fill rooms on slower nights?Final bit of info -- The prices are a bit higher this weekend as it's the final weekend of regular season baseball and the Rams are in town as well. Thanks in advance for any help.
thereuare Posted September 26, 2006 Report Posted September 26, 2006 It would be very rare that adding an additional nite would help your cause; the exception being if a hotel has a substantially lower rate for the additional nite of your stay (and it needs to be a hotel that averages rates to determine the minimum accepted bid amount... not all of them do)What is your maximum bid? HOTWIRE shows $200+ for a 4* hotel on these nites, implying that a $100 bid on priceline is not a high probability bid.Would any other nearby zones work for your needs? At what point would you lower your minimum star quality? Please use this HOTWIRE and these PRICELINE LINKS: HOTELS, CAR RENTALS, and AIRFARE to begin your travel purchases
AaronJB Posted September 26, 2006 Report Posted September 26, 2006 The cheapest downtown hotel I'm seeing for both days is the Renaissance Grand for $189 on Expedia.com (9/29-10/1.)The Omni Majestic is available and $158 on Orbitz.com for 9/29 and the Renaissance Grand is $189 for 9/30. The Residence Inn Downtown is also available for $134 for the 29th only. What appears to be the Omni Majestic is on HOTWIRE.com for $132 for 9/29 (3.5*, Boutique, Restaurant, Fitness, Business). The Renaissance is 0.3M away from the Omni.If you stay outside the city, I'd recommend the Drury Chesterfield, which is a very nice new hotel - put visiting friends up there and they loved it. Lot of perks, as well (free breakfast, evening drinks, internet, etc.) That's $100 a night on Travelocity"]Travelocity.comJust throwing out some options.
LotzOStuff Posted September 27, 2006 Author Report Posted September 27, 2006 I'm really wanting to be downtown as we're coming in Friday for the Cardinals game. We'll be at the game again on Saturday afternoon, and then probably spend some time out at the bars or on the boats... Sunday we're hitting the Rams game, and then probably crashing near the airport to catch an early morning flight on Monday. It's also Taste of St. Louis, so the popular weekend seems to be driving rates up. I'll probably bid up to $140 downtown before I just settle for the airport area at $70-90. nto familiar enough with other areas to know what would work well with public transportation and cabs. I know the metro only runs until around midnight though...Will let you know when I rebid tomorrow, unless anyone else has advice that sways me...Thanks to both who replied thus far. What's your best guess as to what will hapen if I bid the nights seperately???
LotzOStuff Posted September 27, 2006 Author Report Posted September 27, 2006 OK, no need for more help...I went ahead and figured nothing to lose if I went for the three nights downtown. Was going to work up to $110 to see how I did.Started at 80 - 85 - 90 - 95 and BINGO!!!Adding the extra night did get me a cheaper rate.Renaissance Grand St. Louis 4* 9/29 - 10/2Now I just need to hope that the Washington Street Metro starts running early enough to get me to the airport for a 6 AM flight. And to make things even better, American Airlines just emailed me to say I can bring toothpaste with me!!! What a night...
