Hello,

We are new to this outstanding site and PL and would appreciate any help you could give us.

We will arrive NYC on 10/5 and stay until 10/9. We would like a 4* property in MTW/MTE/MTS or UM/CPS. We've seen recent wins of $120 - $150 for these locations and hope to be as fortunate.

Could you help us with a bidding strategy? We've noticed rates on PL and Hotwire are less over the weekend and would consider splitting our stay if need be to secure the best rates.

Thank you

Sorry, thought i had replied to this thread earlier...

You commented that SPLITTING YOUR PRICELINE BID is an option since you're seeing rates cheaper on the weekend, but your stay above is for Thur-Monday... are you willing to split your bid three times, or just twice?

Do you have a back-up reservation, if so, where and how much?

I think splitting twice is the better choice. I've notice rates for 4* properties are highest on the Thursday night, but seem to even out for the rest of the weekend through Monday.

I thought that perhaps splitting Thursday from the rest of the stay would increase my chances of getting the best rates for the Friday - Sunday stay, and then I could bid separately for Thursday. Is this a good idea or not?? As I said, I'm new to PL.

I do have a backup reservation at the new Wingate Inn; 3* midtown, (10/5-7 for $233 and 10/8 for $215)

Thanks for your advice

The above will systemactially take you up to your maximum bid.

You can try for your complete stay first (although i'm doubtful you'll have success) and then try for 10/6-10/9. When you change dates it's treated as a completely new, and 'clean slate', of bidding, so no problem trying for the complete stay first.

Any questions feel free to ask.

Good Luck and let us know how it goes.

Do you recommend a time of day to bid that might be better than other times? Do you know if hotels typically release their rooms to PL at certain times during the day/night or at random times?

I really would like to secure something for this coming weekend 10/5-9, but have had no luck so far. The prices seem to be unusually high for these dates.

Please keep all posts for the same stay in the same thread.

I'm assuming you have tried the above strategy? (you didn't post any follow-up so we have no way of knowing) Did you try for both sets of dates or only the complete stay?

Your maximum bid is not typically high enough for this time of year... have you used our BetterChecker? What is the best rate you can find on a 4* hotel for the above dates?

Just got the Grand Hyatt NYC 4* for $185 night , October 6-9!

Thanks you you for your bidding strategies. As you predicted, I had to raise my bid from my original max of $150. I'm happy and looking forward to a great holiday weekend in the city.

I used the Savingsbarn link to bid.

Congratulations on your win!

This is really a great rate for this time of year. Do you recall the amount of your previously rejected bid which included the MTE zone?

Did you indeed cut your trip short by one day (and arriving 10/6) or is the above a typo and your dates of travel remain as originally posted, 10/5-10/9?

Thank you for sharing your results with the board and for starting your bids with the priceline hotel links at SaivngsBarn.com. I also often recommend Ess-A-Bagel for an inexpensive breakfast one morning... it's about a 10+ minute walk from your hotel (on Third Ave at 51st St) and has one of the best bagels in Manhattan.

Enjoy your stay.

I had bid MTW/MTE/MNTCPS for $165 earlier this morning but was rejected. I decided to keep my free rebids for this afternoon thinking that rooms may be released after mid-day and I wanted to be able to bid within my time.

I searched your site to see where the accepted bids were and for how much. I decided to give it my best shot and start with $185 MTE/MTW/UES; less than already accepted bids of $205+ for the same/similar dates of multiple days, but a little more than rates accepted for weekend dates sandwiching this one.

The bid was accepted right away.

As far as my first night, I decided to cash in my Hyatt points for the first night (10/5) and try PL to get something for the other nights (10/6-9). Imagine my surprise and joy when my PL hotel turned out to be the same Hyatt!

Perhaps my luck with continue and we won't have to change rooms.

We are looking forward to our first mini-vacation in 6 years without our children.
