I flipped the front desk a 20 during check-in and he put me in the best available room, a huge corner on the 6th floor with a great view of the city.Location is near the rougher tenderloin, but only in one direction. A walk north on Van Ness is perfectly safe at any hour. We walked to fisherman's wharf (downhill, mostly), and union square pretty easily. 2 blocks north on california is the cable car, and there are a lot of bus routes on Gehery and Van Ness. Cab fare from SFO was about 38.00 so it's in your interest to get a shuttle for around $10-15 a person, if you're a party of 2 or more.Great stay, would recommend this hotel.
