Priceline categorizes it as either 4*or Boutique.

If your unsure which it is you can look at the confirmation page and it will say there whether it is 4* or Boutique.

Please understand I'm not trying to give you a hard time about which it is, but in order to accurately add it to our Hotel List i need to know how Priceline rates it. (it will also help me provide you a more accurate answer as to how good of a deal this is)

Thanks (and i'm not ignoring your original question but as i said, can better answer with the information above)

Thanks for following-up, it's very much appreciated. I know how annoying it can be when you come to a message board expecting an answer to your question only to find another question of you :)

Back to the info you really wanted:

Probably a little bit of an overbid, but not by too much. Four star hotels in this area can often (not always) be had for $70-$90 so we don't know for sure at what part of the range is available for these dates.

Expedia shows a grand opening special at this hotel of $129 for the Tues-Thur nites and then $169 for Fri-Sun.... so not much savings for the early part of your stay, but good savings for the weekend part. However, since there is a rate change over your stay it is likely that you'd have to have split your bid in order to get the 'right price'. You can read more about splitting your bid and why it's done here: SHOULD I SPLIT MY (LONGER) STAY BID

Bottom line is i think you did better than you could have gotten thru 'traditional' channels, but you also probably could have saved a few more dollars than you did (maybe gotten accepted for $10-$15/nite cheaper as a guess)

If you'd like help on future bids just post your travel date(s) and zone(s) and we'll be happy to provide a step-by-step strategy for you to follow.

Enjoy your time in South Beach. One good thing about this hotel is that i think it has a very good location, so you should be in the center of things!

I think you are right that I overbid by about $10. I am splitting it with a friend, so I am not going to cry over $30 - $45 for the whole trip. For the first night, it was not available (1/04/04) so I got The chesterfield Hotel for $110 for the 4th since it is a Peak rate. It includes airport pickup ($25) Breakfast, and other stuff, plus it is on Ocean drive or collins. I think either way it is a good deal. I was told it just opene in June, and that the rates go up to $500 for a standard room at times.
