surfer Posted September 14, 2006 Report Posted September 14, 2006 So I bid on Priceline for my first time. Wanted a 4* in NYC. Got the Morgans Hotel for 4 days. Stayed there last week. This is NOT a frickin 4* hotel. It's the sister hotel of Hudson hotel, with tiny microscopic rooms and tiny tiny bathrooms. I looked at other sites like Expedia and hotel.com and others and it's a 3* hotel by everyone else's standard. So now I understand the scam behind the "name your own price" strategy. The scam is "we'll name our own rating". Since there is no regulation of hotel ratings, they can basically rate hotels as they wish, and by inflating hotel ratings they can stick it to you through "name your own price". So essentially they could have stuck me with the howard johnsons motor lodge if they wanted to, and called it 4*. I think this is abusive practice, and unfair business. I asked for my money back and they said no. I'm goign to complain to the BBB. Grade inflation is a significant problem in this industry. It really should be subject to oversight and regulation.

surfer Posted September 14, 2006 Author Report Posted September 14, 2006 Yes it's the Morgans at Madison/38th. No way is this a 4* hotel. Stayed 9/2-9/6 at $225/night.
thereuare Posted September 14, 2006 Report Posted September 14, 2006 Sorry you didn't enjoy your stay.It is rated 4* by TripAdvisor, Yahoo Travel, Orbitz, (i stopped there).I have never stayed here so i can't say what the true rating should be, but as you point out, there is little/no consistency within the industry, which is an idustry problem and not priceline specific. Now that you've found BetterBidding, you can use the hotel lists here to have a better idea of what hotel you might get as well as intentionally avoid areas that have hotels you might not want to receive. :) Please use this HOTWIRE and these PRICELINE LINKS: HOTELS, CAR RENTALS, and AIRFARE to begin your travel purchases
