Timmer Posted September 12, 2006 Report Posted September 12, 2006 Hi there!I have booked flights for 12/14 to 12/18 and am looking for somewhere great to stay, preferably without breaking the bank! I have spend some time searching this forum but can't find any information about visiting at this time of year. I am really keen to stay at the Hyatt on the Hudson after reading these forums and have tried a few bids on priceline - all of which were rejected (highest bid was $151). Is this simply such a popular time that I won't get a barain or am I bidding too early? I thought the lack of business travellers at this time of year might mean I get a bargain but I am worried about leaving it too late and not get anything at all. I am hoping to propose to my partner during the trip and so I don't want to be left out in the cold so to speak!Any help or advice would be really appreciatedthanksTimmer
blindman Posted September 12, 2006 Report Posted September 12, 2006 Welcome to betterbidding. To get an idea of what may be available on PL research the rates for the hotel(s) from Their web-sites (look at the MAPS section)Expediaand HOTWIRERates are high for that weekend for the Hyatt, when they drop to under $200 then PL may get inventory and the hotel may be won for $65.Of course you may get the Doubletree if you bid 3* in Jersey City :) IMHO you are bidding 1) Too early2) Too HIGH!Good news is though that the weekends tend to be a good time to win this hotel. :) Thereuare will be along shortly to give his expert advice
thereuare Posted September 12, 2006 Report Posted September 12, 2006 What is your expected budget/maximum bid? Please use this HOTWIRE and these PRICELINE LINKS: HOTELS, CAR RENTALS, and AIRFARE to begin your travel purchases
Timmer Posted September 12, 2006 Author Report Posted September 12, 2006 Thanks for the welcome! To be honest Thereuare, I'd be happy with anything under $600I take both your point Blindman - I'm just nervous about being left with flights and nowhere to stay. I am sure I could live with the Doubletree, it looks as if it's fairly straightforward to get into Manhatten.
thereuare Posted September 13, 2006 Report Posted September 13, 2006 So you have already bid up to your limit? At what point would you want to consider raising your bid, lower your star rating, or SPLITTING YOUR PRICELINE BID? Please use this HOTWIRE and these PRICELINE LINKS: HOTELS, CAR RENTALS, and AIRFARE to begin your travel purchases
