blindman Posted September 1, 2006 Report Posted September 1, 2006 Hi there,we just booked flights from London to JFK with Delta (they have an offer for 160
Claudia Posted September 1, 2006 Author Report Posted September 1, 2006 Hi blindman, yes, I came to that site via your link on MSE!! I also found the Delta flights because they were mentioned there, great website!I never thought about staying in New Jersey, but the hotels (especially the Hyatt) seem to be of a much better value than anything comparable in Manhattan.thereuare, would be great to know what you think about it.Thanks!
blindman Posted September 1, 2006 Report Posted September 1, 2006 yes, I came to that site via your link on MSE!!Any chance of comission thereuare :) When he wakes up (he's 5 hours behind :) )I'm sure he'll give you a strategy.
thereuare Posted September 1, 2006 Report Posted September 1, 2006 What is your maximum bid?Are you also willing/able to accept the Doubletree (or the not likely possibility of some ther 3* hotel in the zone?)Is SPLITTING YOUR PRICELINE BID an option?Note that your arrival date of 11/23 is Thanksgiving here in the US and also kicks off "Holiday Shopping Season" in NYC... so expect hotel prices for this date(s) to be fairly high (all those parade participants from out of town have to sleep somewhere... although fortunately for you many may leave after the parade rather than stay an extra nite). Claudia Posted September 1, 2006 Author Report Posted September 1, 2006 I thought around 120$ as a maximum bid, how are our chances with that? The reviews about the Doubletree don't sound as good as the Hyatt and it really should be close to the PATH station.Splitting could be an option.I was so eager to book the flights yesterday that I didn't pay attention to the fact that there is Thanksgiving. Very stupid as I could have chosen any other wekend as well!
thereuare Posted September 1, 2006 Report Posted September 1, 2006 The reviews for the Hyatt are more favorable than the Doubletree, but you're exchanging the ability to choose the hotel for a (hopefully) deeply discounted rate... so are you willing to also accept the Doubletree (or some other not yet reported 3* hotel in this zone?) Claudia Posted September 1, 2006 Author Report Posted September 1, 2006 I just read some more reviews about the hotels in that area and I think I can take take the risk to end up somewhere else but I don't want to go lower than the 3*
thereuare Posted September 1, 2006 Report Posted September 1, 2006 I'd be a little surprised if you have success with the following, but this is how i would begin given you have some time before your stay...When bidding 3* in Jersey City you have one re-bid zone available. If you're not familiar with re-bidding please read Priceline Re-Bidding Explained and feel free to ask questions and/or confirm your re-bid zones with the board before proceeding.11/23-11/27Select 3* Jersey City...Bid $65, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $75, if rejected close browser and re-access priceline however you did previously.Repeat the above (since you stated SPLITTING YOUR PRICELINE BID was an option) but with the following date combinations:11/24-11/27 then if rejected try again with11/25-11/27Any questions feel free to ask.Good Luck and let us know how it goes. Claudia Posted September 1, 2006 Author Report Posted September 1, 2006 I did all you said but was rejected every time...What do you think would be a realistic amount to get it? I assume the chances are not better in Manhattan as I am not really willing to spend more than 120-150$.Thanks again!
thereuare Posted September 2, 2006 Report Posted September 2, 2006 In 24 hours i'd repeat the above process (following the same date order) with bids of $85 and $95.Let us know how it goes. Claudia Posted September 3, 2006 Author Report Posted September 3, 2006 I went up to 125$ but everythign was rejected!I will be away for a week and try it again when I am back.
blindman Posted September 4, 2006 Report Posted September 4, 2006 I just read some more reviews about the hotels in that area and I think I can take take the risk to end up somewhere else but I don't want to go lower than the 3*Don't discount the 2* Candlewood suites.Location is nearly as good as the Hyatt and my review-(2003) and Tripadvisor reviews give it the thumbs up.Recent wins come in at around the $70-80 level.
Claudia Posted September 21, 2006 Author Report Posted September 21, 2006 Don't discount the 2* Candlewood suites.Location is nearly as good as the Hyatt and my review-(2003) and Tripadvisor reviews give it the thumbs up.Recent wins come in at around the $70-80 level.I tried 2* as well but was rejected up to 80$. Seems to be a difficult time to get anythign for a decent prioce at all.Any other areas with good transport into Manhattan where I could try my luck?
thereuare Posted September 21, 2006 Report Posted September 21, 2006 I'd HIGHLY recommend SPLITTING YOUR PRICELINE BIDIf you're willing to do so, try the following for 11/24-11/27...Select 3* Jersey City...Bid $65, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $75.I think you have a good chance of success. If not, HOTWIRE has a 4* in Jersey City for the above dates (believed to be the Hyatt) for $100/nite. If you go this route please use our HOTWIRE link to begin your purchase.Let us know if you try the above, if you're successful, we'll then deal with the remaining nite of your stay. (for which i think we can probably help you get a different hotel with your previously bid budget).Let us know your thoughts and/or how it goes.
