LadyBug50 Posted October 21, 2003 Report Posted October 21, 2003 Can you help me with a pre-cruise hotel in Ft. Lauderdale Jan. 18? Preferably one with perks like free bfast and shuttle to/from airport/pier, and maybe watch our ship come in? What zone would this be? Any suggestions on what * rating to go with and what to bid? We don't need fancy. Are there any decent 2* to 2 1/2*'s in this area? Thanks, Denise
thereuare Posted October 21, 2003 Report Posted October 21, 2003 Most cruisers stay in the Downtown zone (or some in the Airport zone). The airport is pretty close to the pier (downtown is even closer) but i think you're about a month early to be booking this. The inventory at the prices you're looking for haven't been released yet. Add a reply to this post in about a month and we'll take another look at it then. If you want to be more pro-active than that, keep an eye on Hotwire's prices for your dates and add a reply when you start to see 2.5*-3.5* properties in the Downtown zone under $100/nite. LadyBug50 Posted December 7, 2003 Author Report Posted December 7, 2003 I am still bidding for a hotel by the Lauderdale pier.I was turned down on a Downtown Zone 3* $50 with an added free bid and upped to $54. I then started over with a 2 1/2* going for the Amerisuites and was turned down at $40. My preference now is the Amerisuites (because of the free shuttles, breakfast and suite room) with the Marina/Embassy Suites as a second choice. If I start out with a 2 1/2 for Amerisuites in downtown can I add a 3* if they want me to alter my bid? Would this probably knock me out of those free bid zones because of the 2 1/2 being an option with Miramar/Pompano Beach, which I don't want to *win*. Now, if I get turned down on these downtown hotels, is the Airport Zone a good one to try for, as far as proximity to pier and nice safe area to stay?I am willing to bid $65 (or more) for either 2 1/2* or 3* because an alternative reservation is much pricier than that...but, I don't want to bid more than I have to.Can I get some help with bidding stragedy? Thanks
thereuare Posted December 7, 2003 Report Posted December 7, 2003 You can't bid 2.5* and then if rejected, bid the same zone at 3* (this is because when you bid 2.5* you're looking for 2.5* or higher, so the 3* bid would be seen as a duplicate bid).As a result, if you really want to bid for 2.5* first you're going to severely limit your bidding opportunities (and you can simply go to the last bidding sequence in this thread).Ideally this is how i would bid this:Select 3* Downtown and...Bid $55, if rejected add re-bid zone and Bid $57, if rejected add re-bid zone and Bid $60If above is rejected close that browser and start over again from a brand new screen:Select 3* Airport zone and...Bid $50, if rejected add re-bid zone andBid $55, if rejected add re-bid zone and Bid $60If above is rejected close that browser and start over again from a brand new screen:Select 3* Airport and Downtown and...Bid $62, if rejected add re-bid zone andBid $64, if rejected add re-bid zone and Bid $65If above is rejected (or you really only want to try for the 2.5* hotel in Downtown) then close that browser and start over again from a brand new screen:Select 2.5* Downtown and...Bid $49, if rejected add Airport zone and...Bid $56Feel free to ask any questions regarding the above. LadyBug50 Posted December 8, 2003 Author Report Posted December 8, 2003 thanks thereuare, so you're saying I can do ALL you've suggested without having the 72 hour penalty between the bids, except if I START with the 2 1/2*and if rejected I'll disqualify myself for the 3*bidding, and I'll have to wait for my next 72 hr. bid opportunity. I think I get it :) okay, I'll see what happens with tomorrow's bid.
thereuare Posted December 8, 2003 Report Posted December 8, 2003 I think you got it... now all you need to get is a hotel room :) Please use this HOTWIRE and these PRICELINE LINKS: HOTELS, CAR RENTALS, and AIRFARE to begin your travel purchases
