Hi!

I am totally new to Priceline and Betterbidding, and I badly need some advices!

I am from Montreal and going to NYC for my 31st birthday. I need a room for 2 nights : Sept. 22 and 23. I want a 3+ * hotel and would like to pay no more than 120$ a night.

Which area do you recommand? I was thinking Midtown. Which area of Midtown is better? (I don't know about UWS or UES??). What bidding strategie would be the best?

Many many thanks!!!!

Midtown (MTE, MTW, and UM/CPS) is what most people bid as all are convenient and, thru mass transit, easily accessible to other parts of the city.

However, i'm not so sure your budget will be enough for any 3* within Manhattan. We can suggest a strategy for up to $120, but do you have any back-up reservation or have found anything near that price for these dates?

Probably closer to $150-$175, but near the top of that range you may have a chance at a 4* property.

A hotel near the PATH in Jersey City for $120 or less isn't going to be a "sure thing" either for these dates.

Let us know how you want to proceed and we'll advise accordingly.

If the price difference between Jersey City and Manhattan isn't that important, I'll go for Manhattan.

I could try a 3+* star hotel anywhere in Midtown at no more than 175$. What would be the best strategy?

Two questions first...

1) Before trying for Manhattan would you want to try for a 3* in Jersey City say under $100?

2) Once bidding NYC, would you want to try for a 4* first up to $175 and then try for a 3* up to that price? (there is often only a small difference in price between 4* and 3* in NYC, but if price is most important than trying for the 3* first may save you a few dollars). Also, by "midtown", is it ok to include the MTS zone (which goes as far south as ~18th Street)?

Makes sense...

First Jersey City 3* under 100$. If unsuccessful, 4* in Midtown up to 175$, and then 3* up to that price.

I am not so familiar with NYC, but all areas of midtown seems okay to me.

Many thanks!

OK, here we go...

When bidding 3* in Jersey City you have one re-bid zone available. If you're not familiar with re-bidding please read Priceline Re-Bidding Explained and feel free to ask questions and/or confirm your re-bid zones with the board before proceeding.

Select 3* Jersey City...

Bid $75, if rejected add re-bid zone...

Bid $80.

If the above is rejected, you can then try NYC. When bidding 4* in NYC you have two re-bid zones available (again, if you're unsure of your re-bid zones feel free to confirm them with the board).

Select 4* MTE...

Bid $120, if rejected add re-bid zone...

Bid $125, if rejected add re-bid zone...

Bid $130, if rejected close browser and re-access priceline however you did previously.

Select 4* MTW...

Bid $120, if rejected add re-bid zone...

Bid $125, if rejected add re-bid zone...

Bid $130, if rejected close browser and re-access priceline however you did previously.

Select 4* UM/CPS...

Bid $120, if rejected add re-bid zone...

Bid $125, if rejected add re-bid zone...

Bid $130, if rejected close browser and re-access priceline however you did previously.

Select 4* MTS...

Bid $120, if rejected add re-bid zone...

Bid $125, if rejected add re-bid zone...

Bid $130, if rejected close browser and re-access priceline however you did previously.

Select 4* MTE and MTW...

Bid $135, if rejected add re-bid zone...

Bid $140, if rejected add re-bid zone...

Bid $145, if rejected close browser and re-access priceline however you did previously.

Select 4* UM/CPS and MTS...

Bid $135, if rejected add re-bid zone...

Bid $140, if rejected add re-bid zone...

Bid $145, if rejected close browser and re-access priceline however you did previously.

Select 4* MTE and UM/CPS...

Bid $150, if rejected add re-bid zone...

Bid $155, if rejected add re-bid zone...

Bid $160, if rejected close browser and re-access priceline however you did previously.

Select 4* MTW and MTS...

Bid $150, if rejected add re-bid zone...

Bid $155, if rejected add re-bid zone...

Bid $160, if rejected close browser and re-access priceline however you did previously.

Select 4* MTE and MTS...

Bid $165, if rejected add re-bid zone...

Bid $170, if rejected add re-bid zone...

Bid $175, if rejected close browser and re-access priceline however you did previously.

Select 4* MTW and UM/CPS...

Bid $165, if rejected add re-bid zone...

Bid $170, if rejected add re-bid zone...

Bid $175.

I'm going to stop with the 4* strategy because i think you have a better than 50/50 chance of having success (near the end though :) ). If you are rejected at 4* just let us know and we'll then type out a strategy to try for 3 stars.

Any questions with the above feel free to ask.

Good Luck and let us know how it goes.

I have read the Re-bidding Explained (and I think I understand)... The Re-bid zone for a 3* in Jersey City is Elizabeth? If not than I didn't understand!

I will let you know what are the results.

Thanks!

4* MTE/MTS 190$ 09/22 to 09/24 Intercontinental The Barclay

I followed your strategy for Manhattan and got to a point where Priceline offered me to raise my bid by 25$ without changing any other parameters (star level, location, etc.). So I raised it by 25$ (to 190$) and my offer was accepted. It's more than I wanted to pay originally... but it's my birthday... why not?! :)

Many thanks for your advices! You were a great help!

Congratulations on your win.

Glad to hear you are pleased with the results and looking forward to your stay.

Addition to your deal, you're hotel is also need my often recommended Ess-A-Bagel (50th St and Third Ave)which not only has one of the best bagels in NYC, it also makes for an inexpensive breakfast one morning.

Enjoy your stay and have a happy birthday in the Big Apple. :)
