thereuare Posted August 6, 2006 Report Posted August 6, 2006 Not sure of the 4* property, but the 3.5* is a match for the Wyndham Azteca so that would be our best guess. Please use this HOTWIRE link for any purcahses you make. However, if you want the above note that you can book directly from the Wyndham website for $129/nite so Hotwire may not be worth the $2-$3 per nite savings (after including their fee)Let us know whatever you decide to do or if we can be of further help. PennCity121 Posted August 6, 2006 Author Report Posted August 6, 2006 thanks so much i booked the 4* (its the occidental xcaret -- though judging by the reviews on tripadvisor, i am thinking perhaps i should book a backup hotel in the area b/c this hotel received pretty poor reviews) I was pretty excited until I read that this hotel is in the jungle and there really isnt a beachfront. fingers crossed, hoping for the best!
thereuare Posted August 6, 2006 Report Posted August 6, 2006 I don't know anything about this property in particular, but i don't think i'd worry too much about the 'jungle' aspect. We spent part of our honeymoon in Puerto Moreles at Ceiba del Mar, which translated means "Jungle by the Sea", and it was one of the best resorts we have stayed in. It was private, secluded, and had a great staff. Our enjoyment may have had something to do with the fact that at the time the resort was only open for a year, so of the ~250? rooms only about 6 were occupied for most of our stay, and we had the place mostly to ourselves and were really able to interact and become friendly with the staff. At the time there was a lot of 'jungle' in the surrounding area and both my wife and i commented that in 10-20 years it probably wouldn't be there anymore because it was obvious that development would soon be coming in and turning the entire area into resorts.Reading the reviews of the above this seems similar... the beach may be lacking the "crystal clear blue water" of the Cancun hotel region, but the staff, grounds, and relaxing solitude more than make up for it (imo).Let us know how it goes upon your return and post in our Hotel Review section.Enjoy your trip!
