As long as you stay below CPS you will be in the best zone for the subway, although you are never more than a few blocks from a station anywhere in Manhattan, and you can always connect from one line to another in Midtown. Most of the hotels in Midtown are concentrated near the subways so you should be OK.

I tried to bid for a Manhattan hotel for a Labor Day weekend trip (Sep 2-4) with bids up to $130 with no luck. All rebid strategies have been used. From recent posts, it seems the winning bid for a 4-star hotel won't come below $150, which is kind of out of my price range.

I just followed thereuare's bidding strategy from Aug. 24-27, w/Aug. 27 checkout, and I went as high as 130 but got rejected every time. I'll have to try again tomorrow. Not going higher just yet! If this happens after a few tries I will give in and go higher.
