actraveler Posted August 2, 2006 Report Posted August 2, 2006 I travel to London 3 times a year, and each time I have gone, I have tried to score the Thistle Marble Arch and have been unsuccessful. Tonight, was no different except that I tried Kensington ahead of Marble Arch for the shorter tube ride from Heathrow.1st Bid--Kensington $60 4* 03-05AUG2nd Bid--Added Marble Arch, increased to $653rd Bid--Added SoHo, increased to $70At this point, I decided to head out to Heathrow as I had a 0830 flight the morning of my departure, and the trade off for downtown vs. price became less meaningful. For Heathrow, based upon so much luck with the Marriott for others, I bid $60 for a 4* and was countered with a free re-bid at $69.Rather than play games, I took the $69 hoping for the Marriott. I received the Sheraton Skyline instead. Either way, I'm happy to be on Bath Road for the free busses. Last time, I wound up at the Crowne Plaza- which is a beautiful hotel in a lousy location if you need public transport. Thanks to the Board!!!Hal
